    Hi guys!

Just wanted to ask for opinions really...

I want to sell my car. It has no NCT at present, and I've been told it'll be July at the earliest before I can get one. The car's recently had quite a bit of work done on it and I'd like to out it before it takes up any more of our hard-earned.

Is it worth trying to sell without the NCT or should I just wait and put it through?

    Your thoughts?? :D

My thoughts would be to phone the NCT people first thing in the morning and ask for a cancellation.

Yup thanks for that! I've already been on the case, but I've been told there's a long waiting list even for cancellations in Cork/Blarney...

Ah well - will just have to sit on hands then!. I cannot believe it take so bloody long to MOT a car here! At home you just go to the nearest centre. Often, it's done on the same day or just a couple of days wait...Why can't the same be done here???

Cancellation by definition would mean that there can't be a long waiting list. Ask for a different location

Thanks for that - just had a look for Macroom and Youghal as they're within striking distance. A big fat NO there!!! :D

Thought it was only when they couldn't provide an nct date within 28 days it was free. As in the have 4 weeks to give you a date on which the car will be tested. So if I booked today, the could have up to 4 weeks to give me a date even tho it might not be til november. I would have to pay as they gave me a date within 28 days.

    Or am I completly wrong?

I usually just book online. Keep on checking everyday, you can get cancellations that way too.

Blarney booked out? I had mine done in December there and the place was deserted, Father had a car done in Feb - no problem at all. Sisters old car was done 2 weeks ago - again no real wait (think 8 days). If you are in any way flexible you should get a spot there no problems

It's definitely worth getting the NCT, without it the car would be worth a few hundreds in scrap or parts. The new owner has no way of knowing whether s/he buys a lemon without bringing a mechanic with them. And even then it could fail on emissions etc.

Yup!! Blarney's booked out until at least July as are Little Island and Youghal...I tried to book online, but couldn't get any dates, so I called Dublin. The operator there told me she would be looking at the same system as me, and got the same result. When you go on the website, you can only see two months in advance, hence why I think you can't get a test before July.....
