Anyone have any idea whether it be worth my while trying to sell on my xps 1530 laptop? It needs a new hard drive and possibly a motherboard change..........I personally would just rather replace with a new laptop but was wonder what it would be worth to someone who refurbishes laptops etc?

It's not even 2 years old yet but it's out of warranty so no point in me ringing the manufacturer.

Hard drives are cheap. 80 quid would get a decent sized one. What happens when you try and turn it on?

Has it failed due to a faulty Nvidia GPU? Despite it being out of warranty you might still be able to get it sorted.

You could try check ebay to get a idea of prices of faulty XPS laptops, its bad you have serious problems with it,i have the same laptop and use it excessively and never a prob.

You can get a new motherboard for 300e http://cgi.ebay.ie/Dell-XPS-M1530-motherboard-8600m-GT-256mb-N028D-MU715-/180389256872

Also hardrives are cheap enough and easy to swap out.

Would it not be worth your while fixing it?

Sometimes lately when I turn it on it takes forever...and then wont open any programs when I click the icons etc.......Stops responding then goes ok for a bit then stops again.......I had the hard drive replaced a few months ago but that was faulty so guy replaced it again for me ....but he did mention the Nvidia graphics card problem and that my motherboard looked like it was going to fail.........he showed me a "read controller error" message that he said indicated motherboard was not reading hard drive?????

I checked error reports myself this eve and keep seeing ATAPI /ide/IdePort 1 or somthing like that.

Wow !!!!! Just been on the phone to the manufacturer.........

Bloody hell ... A motherboard replacement and possibly a new hard drive over 400 Euro ........and only guaranteed warranty for 3 months after that..BUT if I wanted to I could extend warranty to 3 years for the cost of 200 Euro......
