Your MTO will know based on a reg check.

If you don't know then either leave it blank or ring the tax office they'll have it's last tax period on the system. I was the same when I bought my car. Just filled the form from what I knew and sent it away.

Was there any questions asked ...?
and will i have to back tax it ?

Since you bought it untaxed, the date you transfered ownership to you is the from date on garda form, the last tax date can be left blank.
You cannot be charged back tax for time when the car wasn't registered to you.

OK. When did you buy it? When was it last taxed? Did you ever declare it off the road yourself?

So are you taxing it or declaring it off the road? Or you bought it a year ago, didn't drive it, didn't declare it off the road, let the tax run out and now you're re-taxing it?

It's fine you can leave it blank. I did with mine and I got my car taxed no problem. Just fill in what you can. i.e. tell them how long YOU had it off the road and now you're taxing it, if you were driving it with no tax then back tax it.

Just leave the subsection of "off road period" blank in the "from" box and fill in the "to/until" box. That's all I did because I didn't know when it was last taxed or on the road etc so I just told them how long I MYSELF had been driving it.
