Okay, so I've been thinking about this the past few days so now I want to see AH's distinguished opinions on the subject

What makes someone a geek? I mean I watch Doctor Who and Stargate, wear glassed and got 380 in the LC, so am I a geek?

Or what makes someone a geek?

When you & your girlfriend are in your car, stop at a red light & both of you check your facebook in the 30 second interval...
    Then you're a geek...

If you have to ask if you are a geek, then most likely, you are one.

A geek is anyone who has an obsession about any topic. So its possible to be geeky about football; trains; models(both types); cars.

If you laugh at this you are a geek:

Anyone who cant go 5 minutes without saying the word ''tweet'', fúcking boils my blood. Ryan Tubridy on the radio in the morning must say it at 20 times during his 1hour show, followed by "haw haw haw". Fúcking Dork.

There are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand ternary, those who don't, and those who mistake it for binary.

Being able to speak kilngon is usually a good sign.

    No, then you're a douche.

Having a girlfriend in the first place pretty much rules you out as a geek!

It's a self-applied term that seeks to make a questionable virtue from a paucity of social skills and/or object-fetishism.

Up to a certain point in secondary education a geek seems to be someone who posseses moderate literacy skills and can score reasonably well in simple tests.

This can be solved with a Venn Diagram.

a geek is someone who knows almost everything about one topic, and little about anything else. science geek, film geek etc.

a nerd is the same except they have social skills too.

I always thought the nerd was someone who knew a lot about something and was putting this knowledge to some practical use, whereas a geek has an expertise in some some subject that is of no benefit (either to themself or society in general)?
