Im pretty sure a pub called "anseo" would be in dublin as opposed to london! :)

You never know, it could be an entrepreneur's way of appealing to the Irish immigrant community over there.

Thanks for that. Do you have anything constructive to add to the thread?

It was constructive. Just saying don't be so nit picky, it helps nobodys thread and stop trying to wrangle your way out of admitting that you were being so by coming up with outlandish ideas about entrepreneurs and Irish immigrants.
For the OP, is there a financial side to the gig?

No, it wasn't. For better or worse I've been visiting this site since 2004, I'm well aware of its name at this stage and I'd imagine so are most posters.

So attempting to clarify where exactly the gig is on is nit-picking is it? What if the OP had posted about something on O'Connell street? Would you immediately think Dublin or would you think Ennis or Cork (and there may be more)?

As for wrangling my way out, I wasn't trying to do that at all. I freely admit I'm particular about people providing enough information in their posts on this forum. When I wasn't a moderator it used to annoy me and now that I am a moderator it's something I can try to do something about.

While it also annoys me if posts are vague, this one had a venue and a street on it! Thats enought clarification I would imagine.

2004? That's great, thanks for that. Have you anything constructive to add?

Since the gig is in a well known venue on a well know street in Dublin, and this is Boards.IE, I don't actually see what your point is. If the OP had posted something about O' Connell Street, then most people would assume it to be the main street in the capital of Ireland. So yes, I would immediately think Dublin. If he meant O' Connell Street in Cork, I would give him the benefit of the doubt that he would have clarified it by saying, "O' Connell Street Cork, that is, for all you Jackeens!" or something of that nature. As for Camden Street, London, I don't know where to begin, and am frankly quite bored with it now. If you can't see it is just a tad ridiculous, then fine, continue in that over analytical, tedious vein, but be prepared to be called on it from time to time.

There is providing enough info, and then there is overkill. You seem like just the type of person who if asked for directions to Christchurch would reply, "Christchurch New Zealand?" There are Dublins in the USA too. If the OP said, "The gig's in Dublin", would you ask "Is that Dublin, Ohio?". It's petty, pedantic, and ultimately hampering to the fluid commentary for which this forum caters. I normally wouldn't be bothered explaining all this, but I think there are elements of society that need things explained to them or else they continue being a nuisance because of obstinance.
As for being a moderator and trying to make the forum a better place, fair play, it's a good attitude. Just check yourself from time to time too before you press "submit".

When I first moved to Dublin I called this place "Ann-zio".

Now let's all laugh at me being an idiot and move on.

How many performers do you need OP?

To clarify it is camden street in dublin :-) and it costs nothing to get in, maybe the price of a pint. As it is a platform for people to play for their mates and whoever else turns up and show off a few of their songs, or play covers if they want. I am looking for about 6-7 acts to give everyone about 4-5 songs to play. Have about 4 acts already.

peet27, apologies for hijacking your thread.

Arpa, I had a cranky reply typed out but I won't submit it. I can't really go breaking the rules on a forum I moderate now can I? :)
I think we'll have to agree to disagree. What you call nit-picking, I call requesting clarification. As I mentioned in my previous post, it's a pet peeve of mine when I see something like "Drummer wanted for city-centre band" and a bunch of posts afterwards with people wondering what city, what genre etc. If I, as a moderator, can nip that in the bud by requesting clarification from posters then all the better I believe. We all want, as you put it, fluid commentary and if posters can just get on with arranging meetups and swapping MP3s etc. without having to request more information first, surely that's all for the greater good?

As for checking myself before I press Submit, I do. I press Preview Post first and have a read over what I've written ;).

Ok, fair enough. Quits. Just took your requesting clarification in the wrong way. Grand stuff. No more cranking, I've no energy during exam time.
