Maybe, although a failing wheel bearing tends to make a low pitched rumble. It could be a stone caught somewhere on a disc, or maybe a suspension bush which is worn?

It could be a balljoint in one of the control arms, not an uncommon problem.

EDIT: When is the noise happening - when you're braking, driving in a straight line, going around corners, over bumpy ground?!

It stopped when i got home. Then when i reversed it started again. I drove it around the estate and it started when i turned left, probly random but it continued on the straight and got a little louder while turning. I am not appying pressure to the brakes which led me to believe it is the bearing. i checked behind the brake pads for grit etc but nothing. Is there a way to check the bearing and if there is is it complicated. I had a fiat punto for a few years and got mecanical experience from that... A lot of breakdowns. And how much am i looking at for a fix.. Cheers

Front pads could be down to the metal. worth checking.

Sometimes you might get a small stone stuck between brake pad and disc and make a lot of noise.

Lock the steering wheel to the right, turn off the engine and push down (rock it up and down) on that corner of the car to see if you can hear the squeak - try it with the steering locked in both directions. This should at least give you an idea that it's in a suspension component.

A bearing would groan if it was on the way out, it wouldn't squeak. To check it, you would have to raise the suspect wheel off the ground, rotate it and listen for any abnormal noise.

ok I used the suggestions and took it on a spin. It was squeking like crazy so i took it on to the motorway and put the foot down. That didnt work so i took it into an industrial estate jamed on at 40mph i did this a few times and it stopped. I think it was something stuck in the brake disc and when i jammed on the abs shook it out. No squeak any more so that 4 the help people, much appreciated.

+1, make sure you check the inside pads as well.
