    hi just a quick question regarding jobs seekers allowance. I'll be finishing college at the end of the month. I've applied for a few jobs and dropped some cv's around. if nothing comes through I might do an add on year in September. I'm just wondering would this affect me if i was to apply for jobseekers allowance while I'm looking for a job?

    You cannot get social welfare during the summer if you are going back to college...

    If you have finished your course completely, ie have gotten an award out of it, you will be able to claim if the course you are going back to do is a different course. If you are continuing with the same course you cannot claim JSA.

    and make sure you get a letter from the college, saying that you have finished and have it dated, so you should get the dole back dated too.

    I think Im just after getting shafted because of that

    Is it true that you have to wait three months after finishing education, or does that only apply to leaving cert students?

    As far as I know, you can apply straight away after a 3rd level education course(finished/completed the entire course), I dont know about secondary school/leaving cert.

    What documents do you need, apart from the letter from your college?

    What documents do you need, apart from the letter from your college?

    This website is always a handy source for info:

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/social-welfare/social-welfare-payments/unemployed-people

    What documants you need all depends on your situation, but there are the usual suspects, I took this from the above site:

    You will need to bring the following documents with you when you apply for Jobseeker's Benefit (JB):

    * Your Personal Public Service Number
    * Details of your availability for work and any efforts you have made to get work. For example, letters you have written to employers and any responses you have received
    * Details of your income
    * Details of your spouse/partner's income (if any)
    * Details of your dependent children
    * Your P.45. This is a form you will receive from your last employer detailing tax/PRSI paid to date in the current tax year. You must either bring it on the date of your claim or (if unable to do so), to bring it in on the next day of attendance. Find out what you can do if your employer will not give you a P45.
    * Your P.60. This is a form given to you each year by your employer. It details your pay and tax paid for the relevant year. Find out what you can do if you do not get aP60 from your employer.
    * Proof of your identity
    * Proof of address

    What do you do re the P45 if you were in College and werent working. Can you just say you were in college?

    Your P45 from your last employment but sure if you dont have one then you cant give them one.

    ya i've heard also that ya have to wait 3 months after finishing education both secondary and 3rd level before ya can apply for JSA both just wondering if you apply for it now will ya get it back dated to the time i left college?

    also in the application form for jsa they ask for your last occupation and if you are just out of college and didnt have a part time job,do you just leave a blank or put in the last summer job you had even if it was 2 years ago?
