    Hey everyone,

I'm in second year, and I thought I'd sign-up here just for general tips and stuff.

I'm sure I'm not the only second year here, so I thought I'd make a thread just for us... so we can talk about the upcoming summer tests, discuss our problems, and help each out.

So, why not introduce yourself, and let's get this thread going...

Also, you didn't need to post it twice.

I'm actually quite stressed about the Summer Tests (I know, lol, can't wait until next year) but I haven't started studying yet. I didn't do well in the Christmas Tests (only 2 A's - CSPE and Woodwork, 4 or 5 C's, and the rest B's) and I really want to do well to kind of get my parents off my back a bit. Like, if I do bad in the Summer Tests, they'll be pushing me to study pretty hard next year.

Does anyone know what happens if you miss a day of the Summer Tests? I will be away in France at a football tournament with the school, and will miss Maths and Science.

I don't think they care if you miss summer tests. It's up to the school. And those results are great (compared to mine anyways)!

Well, I think they'll make me sit Maths seeing as that is like a 'core' subject. I'm not bothered about that really, because I'm good at Maths. Science, on the other hand, I can't stand it, and I would do anything to miss that test. My Dad wants to go in to my school and talk to my teachers about it -- typical. I think my Science teacher (she's a "cool" student teacher) might let me do it at home, I'll ask her Monday.

Thanks, I guess they weren't terrible, but I want all A's and B's. I'd aiming for all A's for my Junior Cert, because I want to leave school and go to England after third or fourth year. So that's my motivation.

Seriously, theres no reason to worry about summer or xmas tests, even if you fail ALL of them they won't hold you back or anything because the teachers know that you do well in class and all that:p

didn't come in for my christmas tests this year at all,but really why give christmas tests to us when we're doin the JC in the summer?!

I haven't started for the JC so don't panic. 2 weeks should cover 2nd year work sufficiently.

Turns out the tournament is this week, so I won't be missing any tests. I was going to have to do them anyway.

Well, last week, I got caught doing my homework at lunchtime by my year-head, and in Maths, I didn't have the diagrams drawn for Trigonometry. She called my parents, and my Dad went in to meet her. She said I was lazy and not putting in enough effort, and that if my results aren't good in the Summer Exams, that I'll be dropping out of the top class.

So, my Dad took away my TV, my PS3, and my laptop, lol. See what I mean when I say I feel pressured by them. The exams are in two weeks, so I'll get them back then. It's probably for the best, to be honest, it's kind of good that I've nothing else to do but study. I'm struggling to get through everything in the two weeks that are left.

Next year, I'm going to try and do an hour a day, and I'll ace my Junior Cert.

Has anyone got their exam timetables yet? We still haven't got them.

Football, I know it sounds stupid, and everyone laughs, but I'll show them.

    Everyone's welcome here. ;)

Well, I'm alright, I guess. More than likely, I probably won't go until after transition year. English clubs can't sign players from other countries under the age of sixteen, unless they live within an hour and a half of the ground. So, I'll be sixteen when I'm doing my Junior Cert. Then I'll have a year of looking for trials, getting trials, and hopefully getting signed before I leave.

I was supposed to be going to Sunderland for trials over Easter, but the scout left because he had a fight with the club, and he's one of those people who you don't argue with.

    Unlucky with the Sunderland trial!
I've never seen anyone actually take football as a serious career!
Best of luck with it anyway!

Cheers, I know what you mean.

People ask me what I want to be, and I say "a footballer."
    They reply, "no, really, realistically?"
    And, I'm like, "yeah, seriously."

    It gets annoying, lol.

No offense or anything but you should plan something to fall back on if the soccer doesn't work out. I don't mean to say you aren't good enough at soccer, I'm sure you are, but you have to take into account that a bad knee injury or something could end your career and what would you be left with then?

    Just something to think about.

Yeah, I know. I probably won't be allowed to leave then anyway, so I'm planning to do Sports Science, or something along those lines.

I'm doing my coaching badges next year, so I can coach at the FAI camps during the summer, which pay well.

So, has anyone started their exams yet?

I start Monday, with Science and Maths () and finish Friday.

I already had my CSPE exam on Thursday and it was simple. If I don't 100% it, I'll be very disappointed.

I handed in my woodwork practical on thursday too. I just managed to get it done in the last class of the year, I was worried I wouldn't finish it. It's... alright. It's better than my first attempt, but it still doesn't hold perfectly. Sometimes it stays, other times it falls apart.

Good luck in your exams!

My exams start Tuesday. Just counting down the days now til the hols! Roll on Friday! :D

Yea I had my CSPE test already too. No bother, teacher gives easy enough tests anyway.

I really should be studying now. But anyway.......... hopefully we'll all get on grand!

    Cool, well done!

I'm really worried about Science... I just can't do Higher Level. For the Junior Cert, I'm definitely dropping to Ordinary Level. I've looked at the past Junior Cert exam papers, and Ordinary Level seems way more do-able to me.

Maths should be fine. I just need to learn how to factorise. They took all the easy stuff out of our exam (Sets, The Metric System, Ratio and Proportion, and Scientific Notation). Maths is easy anyway, I'll just need a quick look over Geometry and Trigonometry. At least all the circle, sphere, and cylinder forumlae are in our log-tables.. same with the midpoint of a line, etc..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 47 Moi!

Yea to be quite honest i really don't like science. But my teacher is really good and she gives us way simpler notes than the book. I just hope they'll suffice for the jc or im screwed!

Im not too bothered about maths either really, Though I just hate volume and 3d shapes-they drive me maaad! yea thank god the formulas are in the log-tables.

Im most worried about Geography. We covered soo much of the course this year and our teacher is just so awful, I have no idea what topics she is gonna ask! The same with English. It really could either way! The qs tend to be so broad.

But overall I'm not too bothered about the exams. I know I should be a little more stressed cause I know I totally freaked out for last yrs exams. But it isn't too bad, lyk its only second year! :o

I'd be worried about Geography too, since there is a lot of topics, except our teacher told us which ones would come up on the test. We have to answer five out of ten questions, leaving plenty of choice, and at least three of the questions are the exact same as our Christmas test, so I can learn them off before I go into the exam. Our Geography teacher is a legend, and he knows just about everything about Geography - he makes up all our notes in his head, and calls them out. Only problem, he goes into way too much detail sometimes.

For English, I'm just preparing a character question for the novel section, and I'll have a thematic one at the back of my mind, if I need to do that instead. We have a choice of a character, thematic, or favourite section question for our novel. We also have a choice between studied and unstudied poetry, as they only decided to included the studied poetry on Thursday. I'm planning on doing the unstudied poetry, but I'm going to prepare an answer on Mid-Term Break, in-case the unseen poem is confusing, like the one in the Summer Test was.

I'm going to leave my essay until last, as mine usually take four A4 pages, which would take too long. I have about forty minutes for the personal writing section, depending on how quickly I finish the other sections, so I'll try and shorten it. I'm actually hoping to fly through the novel and poetry questions, as I can have them learned-off before I go into the exam. The reading comprehension should be easy enough.
