Am thinking of going to Lake Bled in June myself... Looks so beautiful but am a bit worried that there won't be a whole pile to do there. Have you any activities planned for when you are there?

Lake Bled is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, the Alps surround the lake, and the castle is like something from a Disney movie.

Also recommend you travel to the Postojna cave system, which are truly enormous.

As for Bled town, there wasn't a massive amount to do there. Slovenia is a small country and you can base yourself in Ljubljana, and still be within a reasonable bus journey from all the sights.

Slovenia is also a great place to go for adventure sports, white water rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking. These tend to be great value compared to most other places in Europe.

Slovenia is a relatively wealthy country, and by far the most successful of the former communist countries. However, it is still possible to eat and drink well for a lot less than here, just take care when ordering, as they are fond of horse meat.

Heading there in July and literally cannot wait. looks amazing. Seending 2 nights in Venice, 2 in Ljubljana and 3 in Lake Bled. In 2 minds about where to stay though. Don't know whether to stay in a nice lakeside Hotel, or a nice personal B and B/pension

Bled is lovely but if you're not into hiking/kayaking etc I think you'll be pretty bored if there for a week!

definitely agree with Padraig, Bled is an incredibly beautiful spot, but i'd think a week is too long, Ljubljana is a beautiful city, and trains are the way to travel around, amazing sights and pretty reasonable.

maynooth_rules: we are staying in the park hotel, apparently its right on the edge of the lake and has gorgeous views from the rooms. We specifically booked a lake view room with a balcony so cant wait. hopefully it will be nice!

bedhead: I'd say there's plenty to see and do there. I have been looking into places to visit. There's bled island, bled castle, vintgar gorge, Kranjska Gora, Lake Bohinj, the city of Ljubljana. I know you can visit alot of these places through travel companies on day trips. There's a day trip to Venice which we intend to do. Also a day trip "Julian Alps" which sounds fab. We are hoping to maybe rent a car for 2 or 3 days we are there so might even head off to the coast and check out that area. Definately think we'll be able to keep ourselves occupied for a week.

Can anyone who's been there tell me what kind of town Bled is? Is there anything to do there at night, like some pubs with music etc? Also if there are nice restaurants? We are going half board with our hotel so probably wont be eating out much anyway but would be nice to know if there's any really nice restaurant we should try while we're there.

Was there for a week 3 years ago. Very nice place but the night life isnt great. there's a couple of pubs and a club around the lake very close to the park hotel but they are relatively quiet. Women are stunning there!
highly recommend 3glav, the do all the adventure stuff. check out their site. we went back in to Ljubiana (totally misspelt!) for a few nights to go on the beer. stunning, stunning women!!

There's a good number of restaurants and a few bars - it's all pretty quiet though! Some of the restaurants are pretty good - I liked Okarina, a bit back from the waterfront on the road to Ljubljana. There was a very good restaurant on the far side of the lake called Preseren, but it seemed to be closed down last time I was there. BTW the Slovenes are very into their game so you'll find the (yummy!) likes of boar and venison on the menu, along with horse steaks!

We based ourselves there for a week back in 2001...it is very quiet, but you can easily take the bus from there into Ljubljana (once you've seen enough of Bled and its surrounding area), and from there to the rest of the country. It's a small country, and it's very easy to get around.
