Some of the reviews aren't great. I'm no techy but they talk about the sowftware it installs on your PC.

The drive has WD SmartWare built into the firmware of the drive. There is no way to remove this software, the only option you have is to disable it from the operating system on each machine you use it on. WD needs to supply a method of removing this virus / trojan vector from their drives.

i have a 500gb version and it comes up as 2 drives: one with the software and then the empty drive. It all works grand to be honest, I reformatted the main part to fat32 to use with a home cinema system, all works grand

I think this solves that problem ?

I've the 500gb WD, all I'll say is be very careful where you place it
they're extremely shiny and slippery and will fly off a table or sofa with little force

I got a 500GB WD Essentials (not a passport) portable drive last week on Amazon for about €72 delivered. Came in two days!

    €58.75 delivered?
I bought one of these a year ago for about €95, had no problems so far and it gets toted around a fair bit (albeit in a good case).

Thanks. Think I'm gonna stick to the Passports...bit of a fan since getting my 320GB (was 20 euro short in my paypal for the 500GB :( not that patient...)

I suppose 4 250GB drives are about the price of a 1TB one on amazon...meaning that the 1TB is technically cheap also.
    Hmm

I've had a 320gb WD Passport for years, they are the absolute business. I've had no trouble with it at all.

Would highly recomment the 250gb at that price.

Sorry, this is the one I meant and yes, it's about €72 delivered — as eclectichoney said. :o

    In a lot of ways, 2 x 250GB is better than 1 x 500GB.

Thanks OP! You just solved my 'Need a little more space on the Xbox but could also add some to the network router too' dilemma.
This baby can do both! :D
