If I wasn't so utterly broke at the moment, I'd be very tempted. (Who'd have thought having a baby was expensive? Actually, that's not entirely true, it's more--who knew maternity pay was so crap?)

They do sound suspiciously cheap though...

My German isn't very good but is it for both wheels. CRC list these at over 200 for one.
There history on Ebay looks good. I'd buy if it was both wheels.

I've just bought these :). I'll post again once I get them on the delivery times and quality of the wheels in case anyone else is interested - they've listed 9 pairs available.

This bikeshop has posted the following in eBay for 2008 Ksyrium Elites. They're for new wheels in silver and they charge €19 for delivery to Ireland. Does anyone know why I shouldn't get the credit card out of the freezer?

I bought my wheels last year from an ebay shop in germany for similiar money, seems once something new comes out in germany they sell the old stuff for dirt ... go for it !!

The lighter Mavic Ksyrium Elite Wheels 2010 are available on CRC for €236 with postage free within the R.O.I. Surely worth the additional €19 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=30809

I am still relatively new to cycling.

    I have a defy 4

    Stupid questions time...
Would the addition of these wheels make me enjoy cycling more?
    Would they make me faster?
Are rear hubs different sizes? My cassette is 8 speed - does that make a difference?

    Muchos Danke Schóns

Welcome to your new most expensive hobby!

The stock wheels with the defy 4 are relatively flexible and heavy, so the ksyrium's would decrease weight and increase stiffness, meaning more of your power goes into moving the bike forward, so yes, they should make you faster. Would they make you enjoy it more is entirely up to what your goals are; they should make it easier though, and few people I've ever met actively want to make their bike harder to ride!

The ksyrium's are 8 speed compatible, yeah, just make sure you go for a shimano compatible wheelset, not a campagnolo one.

they haven't the best reviews in the world from what I've been able to find. Anyone have an accurate weight?

The '10s are 1555g actual according to CC, and were 80g lighter than the '09s, so that's 1635g for the '09.

The '09s saved 140g over the '08s according to bikeradar (i.e. Mavic), so that would put the '08s at 1775g.

Of course Mavic could be lying about how much weight each revision saved (for shame!) so they might be a bit lighter than that. Or not.

In any case the 2004s were 1792g according to WW, so somewhere in the mid 1700s is likely.

They dont take paypal how did you pay?

    Bank Transfer.

They're a bike shop so they can fit them with tyres and tubes also without any additional cost for the postage as it still wouldn't reach the 5 kilo(I thnk) threshold and is still pretty much the same size and shape.. They're prices for tyres and tubes are generally better than you'll get here or on CRC.

Did the Irish Bank try and fleece you for the cost of the transfer?

Don't know yet as I've yet to receive their bank account details. AFAIK it's free with internet banking. I stand to be corrected on this.

All eurozone transfers should be free.

Just put in the request for the bank transfer there. For an additional €80 I'm getting Continental Grand Prix 4000 (23-622) fitted with tubes.

    Thanks Crippens1

@ barrabus The charge for the transfer was 75 cents and takes 4 working days. Would have been 20 cents (I think) had I made the request through internet banking.

    thanks lemag
bought a set. Think ill use em for racing and use my other wheels for hills. will have a look at site to see what add ons i might get , have a pair of gp 4000 s lying around somewhere.

Banks can charge for euro transfers within the EU but not more than they charge for national transfers.

Great find Crippens1. I've just ordered a set - I was very close to buying the new '10 model in my LBS ... that has saved me a packet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 200 ✭✭Crippens1

Hi, I didn't check on this for a couple of days. The payment is via a bank transfer and this is easily set up at your bank or on the phone if you've got internet banking. You just need an IBAN number of the trader which they send you. There is no cost involved within the EU for this.

It's also common enough for German traders not to take credit cards or other fee-based methods although this has improved in recent years.

I made the transfer on Friday and it should have reached them today or maybe tomorrow; bank usually say allow up to 5 working days.

This is true; a lot of German sellers don't take credit cards, their requiring a bank transfer is not necessarily an attempt to rip you off. Naturally you need to be careful though as there is little protection for you if things go wrong.

    I ordered 1.

Also see them listed on this site but can anyone translate if its for one or a pair of wheels.

It appears to be €199.90 for the front and €242.90 for the rear so Ebay a bit cheaper!

At that price, I wish I needed a set myself, but I don't, or do I?

I order 2 sets - 1 for me and 1 for a mate of mine. Put tubes/tyres on them also. Was only €23 for postage of everything.

Do they come in black anywhere?

Would they be much of an upgrade from stock 32 spoke Alex race wheels?

Just got the wheels delivered (FAW:D) and I think it's the best deal I've done on eBay. Wheels are as described and packed superbly in bubble wrap and foam. From payment to delivery was exactly 1 week.

    Roll on the week-end!

Nice one. Great spot Crippens. Can't wait for mine to arrive now.

    Definitely

    Just found this link :

    http://www.rouesartisanales.com/article-15505311.html

Would that suggest the Mavics are so so (the cheparer Aksium better than the Ksyrium even !!??), and maybe Shimano wheelsets are not too bad an alternative. Or am i missing something - maybe there are other factors .

I wouldn't place too much emphasis on aerodynamics for this type of wheel, it really only makes a very tiny difference. A lots of wheels in that test are deep section and/or tubulars.

All I see on that page is LUMEN LUMEN LUMEN LUMEN...

They're talking about the aerodynamics of a non-deep section wheel but you have to also consider stiffness and weight.

I would imagine they would be a major upgrade, yes. I have a few sets of basic 32-spoke Alex rimmed wheels and they are very basic.

Stiffness and inertia are on the preceeding pages - actually i must read it when i have time, looks interesting. Then when i triangulate all the factors with my budget ill post in the "i should have left the credit card at home" thread.

Agree - they obviously were at fault for me getting dropped by the main group in club spin. (not my poor cornering and hill climbing).

How stiff are these wheels? My girlfriend has Easton Vista on her bike and there's a woeful amount of flex in them.
