well i have used the same rifle in the came cal using the same scope only the target differed

considering there is so many using accuary internationls and S/Bs ,i thought it was of interest to us as firearm users .

also there is a lot of us into long range shooting .

should we not talk about DPM ,308s ,223, .

a bit like "irish army rifles" ,we have a interest in it ,or is that just nit picking .

I don't see why this thread couldn't have been kept in the shooting forum?

There is plenty of AI rifles around the place in civvie street now and the story is related to long range shooting!

the guy fired three shots two kills and he hit the machine gun .

the talk about pressure of the hcap .

if the shots were with a 50cal they would be still outstanding .

Any chance of getting this back to the shooting forum Conor?

Its as much shooting related as it is Military!

To be honest it's not politically good for the shooting forum and I sincerely doubt it's going to go back there. Civilian shooting has nothing to do with killing people in Ireland. Long range target shooting, yes, but the fact that this was a combat operation renders it outside the purview of the shooting forum.

Well theres currently a thread on a video about Irish Army Rifles in the shooting forum, what were they used for, stirring soup?

Look at this thread in the Target Shooting section: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055822995&highlight=army wtf has that got to do with target shooting???

I could go on, look at all the threads on historical Military firearms, Micheal Collins old gun for sale even, are all these goin to be moved to the relevant History or Military forums?

Get a grip lads, the thread got more interest from people in the Shooting Forum, even today another lad tried to post a thread on the subject!

I'm preparing to be unpopular here, but I'd be inclined to agree the sniper topic belongs in the military forum. It's true the calibre is used by civilian shooters but not so many of those same shooters are shooting at real live people. We hope. The link between shooting rifles and shooting peoples isn't the best for us shooting folks in this wonderful little country of ours. Fellas in ballyclavas used to be at that craic and it caused a bit of a stir at the time.

Understand the frustration and I'd like to be able to say bring it back to shooting, as it is there on UK sites, but I think this is one of the times we get the crap end of the schtick just because of where we live.

I didn't view the Irish Army rifles thread. If it's just discussing the rifles and calibres and not shooting people I can't see the harm in it being in the shooting section. Plenty of calibres are dually used by military and target/hunting types. It's the link between the rifle/calibre and directly killing people (who ever they are, whether they deserved it or not) that get's us in a sticky spot.

That's my take on it anyhow.

Lads FFS we try and distance ourselves from Military or Combat Shooting all the time, as much as possible.

We as target shooters get annoyed when licenses are refused on the grounds that they are military calibre.
We got annoyed when Practical style shooting was banned.
We are annoyed that certain combat or "tacticool" features on firearms have made them restricted.

So why are we arguing that shooting people and shooting targets should be discussed in the same place when we have been trying to avoid that as a matter of principle?

murph have you not sold a pistol recently over stuff like the above.

Doesn't make any sense to me anyway lads.
