Incorrect course measurements

From reading the Limerick thread, is there anything at all set out by Athletics Ireland regarding the issuing of permits year on year for organizers who can't even measure a distance correctly for an event?

    Are there any penalties?
It says the course has to be verified for insurance reasons but does this happen?

Also what's to stop these companies operating under a different name the next year if an event is a shambles?

Was the 10k a permit? or was the permit given to the full or half because these were accurately measured
AFAIK there is no accountabilty other than the reputation from how it was run previously i suppose not too well up on this

The only penalty for a dodgy course measurement is probably a bad thread about that particular race on here. Haven't yet seen how the ARC race got on today in the Phoenix Park after they messed up last years course.

Afaik, No. One of the worst races I ever ran in was a 4 mile AAI county road chp: Ran first 'mile' in approx. 4 min, the next in 8 min, the third in 8.5 min and the last in 3.75 min. I reckon it probably was 'about' 4 miles overall. but..point is...when a branch of the AAI can't be bothered to measure. btw, that race was in 2002.

It may say that, but I don't see the connection between insurance and course accuracy.

It's not just companies - it's a lot of club and other races. I know we're talking primarily road running here, but the AAI National Masters XC in Boyle in Feb was a shambles as far as course measurement was concerned, with the men's and women's races short by approx. 25%.

I would like to see the AAI list, on their calendar, all races that have a) a permit and b) that have been measured by an AAI accredited measurer.

One aspect that disturbs me this about measurement is reports of races that were held this weekend, over courses that comprised of a lot of footpaths, with many street obstacles, kerbs etc, i.e. obstacles. It is one thing to think that a crafty runner will take a 'short cut' across a section of footpath, however I believe that footpath running can be dangerous at the best of times.

Very true i was pacing yesterday and spent a full mile trying to warn my followers about a pretty dangerous slope off which beside the paths (presumably for water run off)
