Apple iPhone Serial Number & Warranty Questions

I've read that one can determine the manufacturing week from the serial number.

So I have this Serial Number: 5K011****** which would seem to indicate week 11 of 2010

However the relevant section of apple.ie says the estimated expiration of warranty is 18 July 2010

TO check the exact date visit the Waranty website just enter your serial number and country and will give you the date.

which 'relevant section'? The site gives you an exact date not an 'esitmate'? That serial number would appear to be week 11 2010, which would make warranty expire week 11 2011 at earliest. Just a web error sounds like.

The Warranty website told me:
Repairs and Service Coverage: Active

Your product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under Apple's Limited Warranty.
Estimated Expiration Date: 18 July 2010

Any suggestions then why a week 11 of 2010 phone's warranty expires on 18/07/2010?

probably a replcament phone by apple and only covers the warranty on the old phone

From a manufacturors point of view, your entitled to a years warranty from Date of purchase. Since Apple do not know when this will be, they generally give a overestimate of time to take into account when the product has been made, and when the warranty should expire (they include some time of it sitting in a stock room) most manufacturors will give around 18 months. If the retailer has a poor stock rotation system and you end up getting a model thats been sitting in the stock room for a year and Apple think your warranty has expired, your proof of purhase will contradict this and they will update their systems. However if the retailer had a very good system, and something goes wrong after your years warranty is up with the retailer, you may get away with dealing directly with the manufacturor directly.

Theres a few terms to this though
I think Apple work a little differently because of Itunes. Itunes sends info off when the product was first registered so therefore warranty kicks off from then.
The above info goes by you purchasing from a retailer, if you bought it off the net or from a friend or elsewhere then your pretty much in the hands of Apple and what they say goes.
I really don't want to hear the whole sales of goods act blah blah blah i know it inside out i know retailers dont abide by it most of the time.
This is purely from an ex electronic retails managers point of view!

Can I just ask, I recently got an iphone when I moved from o2 to Vodafone for a better plan for my needs. I'm selling on the iphone, what's the story with warranty if I'm selling it on? Can I tell the buyer they have a warranty? Do they have less of a warranty than I have if I keep it? Also, somebody asked me, if I don't pay my bills, can Apple/Vodafone disable the iphone? I will pay of course, but don't want more people asking me that and me not knowing the answer

Ive sold a few phones on alright, tell them they have up untill he day you purchased it with vodafone next year so if you bought it on the 1st of april 2010 then they have up to 31st or march 2011, but tell them to deal directly with Apple as the phone will still be regisitered with Vodafone under your name so Vodafone stores prob wont deal with them!

Ah ok, so I can sell it with "Apple Warranty" is it not 2 years though for stuff bought in the EU?

I think I recall my brother got a replacement iphone after one he bought through a classified ad went kaput on him and he sent it off to Apple

No, 2 years never implemented in Ireland or the UK. Sell it with Apple warranty by all means.

I think it's an EU wide thing though? And since Ire and UK are in the EU they have to abide by it? I could be very off here but just going by what I heard

are you getting mixed up with cars cormie? they have a 2 year EU mandated warranty. consumer goods don't.
