I use Paint.net in conjunction with PS and LR. I find it extremely useful when I want to quickly process an image - for example; if I wanted to resize and image, change levels, contrast, saturation etc etc.

For all the other heavier duties such as cloning, sharpening etc I use the other two programs.

    For me:

    Pros
    • Looks great
    • Fast to start up and lightweight.
    • Easy to choose colour selection when designing graphics
    • Great community at the paint.net forums
    • It's handy when using several images and it shows a thumbnail for easy access to each image at the top-right.
    • Decent selection of filters/effects with more available on the forums
    • Great for easy and fast learning curves in processing and layers.
    • Adjustable tool boxes/dialogue boxes
    • Oh, and it's free!

    Cons
    • Cloning tool is very poor.
    • No important tools such as burning/dodging.
    • Very limited compared to Photoshop and GIMP

This is definitely a program to watch out for in the future.
