Best time to Run

Just starting out. Only running a few months. Running about four - five times a week. I try to keep to run 5 k most days with one 7 k. Was wondering how long do you leave it after eating before heading off? Often get a stitch and not sure if it is because of what I ate. Read somewhere you shouldn't stretch before the run. I do as sometimes get a niggle in my right shoulder. Any advice appreciated. Thank you.

With stitches, I think it's just a case of finding what works for you. For a midweek run I won't eat 1 hr before running; for a long weekend run I make that 1.5 hrs. I think it's the sort of thing you find out the hard way!
As for stretching, I think the consensus is that stretching at the start is bad but should be done after your run. Exercises though to loosen your shoulders seem fine, but could probably also be done while warming up?

Running 4-5 times a week is good going, you've obviously caught the bug! Do you do all of your 5k runs at the same pace?

I think i should have called thread best time to jog - I am a bit slow. Around 30 minutes for 5K run. Ended up doing a fast run one day by mistake. Put a fast track on ipod and ended up wrecked. I don't know if it is in my head but i find it easier to run on an empty stomach. Am aiming to do a 10 k in June.

If you want to run a 10 k then you should look to build up your distance. 1 long run per week is fine, but if you want to race 10 k, you should be able to jog for 12-15 k. As these distances go up, you might need to take some food on board beforehand.

If you want to try to improve your speed, then you should also think about varying your midweek runs. You won't improve much if you run at the same pace all the time. For example, if you have 3 midweek runs, make 1 of them a 'fast' run, the next day a slow recovery run and the other a relaxed, easy run. Good luck!
