Use of Quinn lite blocks

I'm aware I'm joining this discussion very late but I would appreciate comments from Johnwstafford or metalscrubber or indeed anyone else concerning the use of B3 Quinn lite blocks for the inner leaf of a cavity wall where the 1st floor is a conc slab. At this point Im assuming you have gone ahead with your builds and any views on their use would be greatly appreciated. In particular I would like to know whether your engineer's ok'd the use of B3 rather than B5 blocks. I am proposing to use 150mm B3's instead of going within them on the flat - will this make a diffference?

I've heard engineers default to the B5 blocks as the safe bet even though the B3 blocks appear to be perfectly adequate for the job. (I think it was Viking House who stated on another forum he had done the calcs and they were more than up to the job) I suppose one way around the problem would be to go timber in the first floor.

Another issue I would be interested in hearing about is the use of the thin joint mortar. I understand this requires special wall ties as the outer block will be higher owing to the use of std mortar for it. Did anyone use the std mortar for the quinn lite and how did they get on?

In relation to the insulated foundations - has anyone experience using the Viking House insulated raft foundation and did their builder have any difficulties setting it up and pouring the concrete. In your estimation how does it compare in cost terms to the std strip foundation.

Lots of questions I know but I'm really confused with all of this .. should have done more research earlier but I am where I am!! Appreciate all comments
