    So any opinions on this.

They seem to be act as a good accompanyment to salads, porridge etc. Omega 3's and 6, fiber, a little calcium, magnesium and phospherous but beyond this i don't know too much behind them. Are they overhyped?

If you can get them cheaply and fresh, I'd go for them. I would not pay a fortune to some guy on the internet for them. I suspect they are the new superfood that turns out to be just an expensive version of stuff we already eat. How do they compare to broccoli sprouts?

    Cheers Eileen.

I got them free from a friend who works in a health food store. It comes in a bag with 30 something servings for about 17euro which is something i wouldn't go buying myself under normal circumstances. I'm thinking there's a large overhype ala every berry out there. A quick google got me this

    Chia seeds - http://www.sachia.de/nutrition-facts/nutritional-value-details.htm http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/hidalgo/chia-seeds

    Brocolli -http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2356/2

Says it all really - lot of minerals and much more vitamins in a 90gm serving of broccolli than a serving of chia.

Aren't they the seeds you used to use to grow chia pets? Ch-ch-ch-chia!:)

I'd sprout them, Sprouts are lovely and you'd probably digest a good bit more of the nutrients in them that way, they look so tiny, they look tailor made to get through the digestive system unscathed!

I use them in protein smoothies - you need to blend them for about a minute along with whatever you're using, (yogurt strawberries milk & Protein Powder in my case). They dont taste of anything but make the shake taste even better as they seem to thicken it. You also need to leave it about 5 mins before drinking to allow time to swell up and absorb the liquid a bit.
I dont believe the hype about the minerals or any anti-ageing benefits etc, but these added to a shake are great for the digestive system, and also they keep you fuller for longer. I've never added them to cereals, you do need to have plenty of liquid with them.
Can be quite expensive as well!
