Where to rent a touring tandem?

    Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered here before - I did a search and found discussions about tandems in general and about buying them, but nothing about renting.

A visually impaired friend of mine is doing a fundraising Mizen to Malin cycle and doesn't have a tandem (hes training on an exercise bike). I've piloted a Trek one before and found it very good, something like that would be the ideal.

We need to rent one for 8 or 9 days at the end of May. I'm based in Dublin, and I've phoned a few bike shops up here, but havent found anything so far. Joe Daly cycles in Dundrum used to rent one out, but they no longer do. Cycleways said they MAY have one, but I think its a clunky heavy one which isn't suitable for doing 80 odd miles a day. Phoenix Park Bike Hire similarly have only non touring ones. A Google search hasn't thrown up much.

Anyone out there know of someone renting them? Any ideas greatly appreciated!

It's a long way from Dublin, but if you're really really stuck you could try these guys: http://www.westirelandcycling.com/

Thanks Hynesie, thats great, I was beginning to worry that there might not be a decent tandem to rent anywhere in the country! The Dawes Galaxy looks like it would do the job for us - its definitely an option if we cant get anything closer.

Hi lasagne2 I wonder did you find anywhere renting out tandems in Dublin or closeby? Clare
