9am, under the Luas bridge in Dundrum for anyone who's interested. I'll work out a route later on when I have a chance. 100km or a bit more.

Route here. 92km, with a few infrequently used, but testing climbs.

Super stuff. Some *berrrrrrrewtal* road surfaces in there, in particular the climb from Lacken up over toward Ballysmuttan and the ensuing descent to the bridge turnoff. If there's anything currently rattling on your bike now, tighten it or it will have come off by the time you descend back towards Kilbride again!

Yeah, some nice climbs but the roads are kind of crap. A day to leave the carbon rims and hope and take it handy on the descents.

    In, probably.

My wheels could use a stress test.

You'll get that coming off Sorrel Hill. The only time I've ever had to call a cow on a spin was the last time I was up there.

Anyone fancy a Slieve Mann - Shay Elliot double value combo meal?

Thinking of doing that on Sunday as better weather forecast.

could well be up for this... or some of it anyway.. might take a detour home at some stage near the n81

Time to lube the legs and shave the chain for my first boards spin of 2010. I fully expect to be useless so I will be turning off early.

the sorrell hill descent is worse than the climb! watch out for the lambs this time of year, and i'd leave yourself a bit of space. rolling over the potholes and rubble leaves your vision a bit blurry!

Monday looks good! Could be up for an epic of some sort, though I will not go near descents with crap surfaces.

Might finally get to meet this Del Monte fella.:D

Edit, I guess everyone was watching thier favourite soaps between 7 and 8 this evening-thats why it was so quiet?

Having failed to learn my lesson last week I'll try this.
    Weather and comittment permitting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 230 ✭✭Cadex

Might be up for this if head is clear in the morning!

+1 on the concerns about the descents, hope the road is ok. Don't mind the going up quite so much as risk of going on snot on descent!

@Raam on the Sunday spin - would love to but have family stuff for afternoon.

What time are you thinking of kicking off and from where? Under pressure to be back in west Dublin by lunch time.

I think I'd be up for something tomorrow if the weather improves and I can get tonto to look at my bottom bracket:)

So, Lumen shows up this morning with an enormous Allen Lim rice cake, wrapped up sausage-style in tinfoil, which he christens the Dong of Nutrition. Midway through the spin we see him braking hard, shouting "Dong overboard, dong overboard". It had fallen out of his jersey pocket. Sadly the dong was run over by a car before he had a chance to retrieve it.

In other news, we did 105km, with lots of climbs and got very wet at the end.

A mere moistening myself - the slower you go the less raindrops you hit. Fact.
Nice route, sorry for holding everyone up.

haha that's hilarious. Too much BikeSnob for Lumen

Thanks El Tonto for the route, much of it felt new to me.

Probably the longest ride of the year so far for me. 120km, 5:03, 23.7kph, 3344kJ, 1478m^, 183.7W. Had a bit left in the tank thanks to TDON, but was weather had turned pretty nasty by the time I got home so no regrets about bailing early.

Nice to meet some new faces. :)

Sorry I missed this one (thanks for the call El Tonto, not necessary though, if I don't turn up just carry on!) but when I saw the route I was a bit worried. I hurt my leg during the week and I don't think a climb intensive route would have done it any favours.

Is the Sunday spin still going ahead?

I'll be at luas bridge at half 9 tomorrow morning,

    75km. 2000m of climbing.
Tourmalet to a Mongie and Col de Aspin.
Driving freezing rain and dense fog at altitude.
Girl cyclist got hypothermia on Tourmalet. Ambulance called. Guys said 15mins from death. She was not with us btw.

    Climbs long tough but ok.
    Descents are beyond cold.
    Nuts.

Sounds rather intense. I hope it's fun anyway.

I have to drive my folks to the airport at 4am in the morning. Not sure what time I'll be on the road, but I will need a spin. I think I best just not makes plans just in case I'm too knackered in the morning ...

Will check again in the morning, weather depending. 9:30 sounds fine, but I will have to head off early to be home for around 1pm.

Sounds good, wasn't planning on being out all day myself

I got a text from a friend who is up from Cork for the weekend. New to cycling but two of them are heading out tomorrow at 1pm. I'm gonna head out with them, hopefully record the Chelsea match and not hear about the result in the meantime.

    Now there's a challenge:D

You'd better stay clear of boards until you have watched it, as I will be dropping hints all over the place (but only if Chelsea fail to win):P

Damn my hatred of the rain! didn't make it out this morning at all...

Fantastic spin in Wicklow (route on link below). Met up with the Boards lads (Tonto, Lumen, Suitor, Oflahero?, Niceonetom) for cycle up Bohernabreena, circuitous route to Sally Gap (Oflahero had blow out but with Tom's help did a McGivor on it with duct tape!), then down towards Kilbride (where Lumen's 'Dong of nutrition' went overboard - apparently he had spares!), over rough road to Lacken then on up through worse road onto Sorrell Hill. Descent of this nearly had me as I foolishly took eyes off road for split second then scrambled around a bend in a spray of gravel. Decided that while I like climbs as much as the next guy, I would be happy for this experience to be unique - just not worth the risk of going on one's snot. Reckon the sheep wouldn't want this in the list of sheep tracks. After this, back through Brittas then up and down Bohernabreena (not been up this way before - nice climb), back through Templeogue, the canal then home. Grand day though got pretty wet from about half way. Good to see the lads again.
    Stats: Distance:116.29k, Time: 4:25:52, Max: 73.2k/h, Ave: 26.3 k/h.

I just watched it. Ended up fast forwarding through most of it, Liverpool seemed to turn into a Blue Square North team after a promising 30 minutes and it was a certain win for Chelsea after that. Not a classic at all, but Liverpool v Chelsea never is.

As for the spin, even worse! They didn't tell me they would all be hanging, so I had the slowest 20km spin up to Johnny Foxes before leaving them at the Golden Ball. The only positive was my descent from Johnny Foxes was above my normal standard.

    Can this Sunday be salvaged?

We thought it would be fun to wake up hungover Dirk and hear you groggily excuse yourself.
