A guy who rented a room in my house recently bunked leaving me 500 euro poorer, He sent me a cheeky arrogant emailing as good as saying forget about the cash. I even made this p*&^K Xmas dinner as he had no family here. Before he left he said ill get you that cash no bother. Now says he cant. I have his work address and his new house address. Its not the money more so the way he took advantage of me i was very helpful to him loaning him cash on several occasions ( He even stole some of my belongings on leaving! which he kindly returned after i rang him about them) Is it worth getting The Viper after this guy or would he be interested in chasing someone for such a small amount? Just really peeved off at being taken advantage of. Or should i just put the whole thing down to a lesson learned and leave him be? Hmmm any thoughts :)

Is it worth dealing with one scumbag in order to get your back on another.... hmm.

Send him a registered letter threatening to hand it to a debt collector.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

You should definitely teach him a lesson. Some people think they can get away with anything because the good ones don't complain.
If you have any proof you can file a small claims court case against him, costs 6 euro I think.

ah it was only a casual tenanat thing i dont think a letter is much use he hinted at going back to poland possible so it would have to be a sudden sharp shock thing not a long drawn out affair so he could slip abroad

My attitude would be to avoid the scumbag Viper as he may present you with a bill more than what the other scumbag owes you. Will you refuse to pay the Viper then?
Any legitimate (all are scumbags) debt collection agency will do the job for you. Shot in the dark but hopefully he will pay up. There is no legal onus on him to pay as no written contract/agreement.

Unfortunately in this case that is the only type of solution. Nothing legal will work here. There are some guys who will take care of him but not for €500

Makes no difference if he's the Viper, Armadillo or Chiwawa or whatever the fuck the Red Tops call him.

He can't put a finger on him to collect the debt, just harass him so you may as well opt for a debt collection agency if they'll take that size of a debt.

Small claims court maybe? Print out the email and bring it with you

Don't bother. It will cost you minimum 1200 euro for the call out and more on top of that if debt is repaid. Can't you just go around his house yourself and get the money?

Just for being a smartarse i would send people after him..i would pay them half the debt to give him a few lumps and teach him not to be such a flash **** in future.

You should definately get the Viper in. Teach these chancers a proper lesson.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,410 ✭✭✭old_aussie

I'd go round to where he now lives.

ake sure the people he's living with now are there and tell him you want the money and let the other people know the truth.

They might just give him his marching orders to prevent him from causing the problem to them.

Constantly ring where he works and let the story be known to his employers, also write to his employers anonymously and report to them that he is offereing their goods/stock/computers for sale and that he did that to other employers.

No. They don't chase business to personal, nor do they chase personal debt.

They see him as a soft mark.

Step1. Hunt down his family, and kill them one-by-one by cutting off appendages and posting them to him.

Step 2. When you are done with his family, hunt down his friends and torture them to death whilst you phone him. Let him hear the screams of his friends as they die slow painful deaths.

Step 3. Send him a polite email warning him that you will take him to the small claims court if he doesn't give you your money. After steps 1 & 2, he probably won't hesitate to give you your money.

You see, politely worded emails can be very effective in the right circumstances. Fair better than approaching some dubious character called 'The Viper'.

Big Mistake. Never leave a man with nothing to lose, alive. Also if you get caught you could go to jail for a very long time.

unless you have proof that the guy owes you money I dont think theres much you can do but keep asking him, maybe come to an arrangement of having it paid off a little bit each week.

A debt collection agency send letters asking for money, then reminders, then legal threats, then legal proceeding date, then you are blacklisted and wont be able to have a bank account/loan/credit card.

I think you have to pay the agency a small fee to collect and he will prob end up having to pay 570euro within a short time frame or 600+ euro over 6months or so

they dont actually call to your door, money lenders usually do but thats different.

I know i'd be chasing after the money. 500 euro is a massive amount of money in my situation. To have that in my account I would consider myself to be very very lucky.

Remind Prawo Jazdy that Poland is still in the EU so you can chase there too. It'll affect his credit rating and stuff.

Send Trent around to sort him out.
Upon opening the door, Trent will shoot him and say "hahaha".
Trent will then have sex with any ladies in the house.

I wouldnt go near any debt coll agency. As someone pointed out, all they do is send letters. Since your case is all cash, a legal route would be hard to follow.
I have some experience of a debt coll agency. They "buy" the debt off you at a discount, (so you're owed 500, they'll give you 350 if they collect) and send their letters whilst adding on intrest. You dont get paid till they do. If after a year they havent colleted the debt, they'll hand responsibility of collecting it back to you. I once almost hired a crowd, and the feckers went out of business the next day!!! Major scams go on in that business.
As for the viper, no way. Not for 500, not for 50K. Karma will win out in the end;)

I like the smearing approach already suggested...

Turn up at his building/work, email in hand, basically outlining everything to his neighbours/boss n telling them that it'll be scumbags turning up next time. Tell them it's a necessary situation, but one you'd ideally like to avoid as they have a tendency to fly of the handle/focus their disquiet on the wrong parties from time to time.
