Going to court

    Hi All,

Last wednesday night i got arrested for publically being druk, beating up a guys cab and provoking (3 charges).

I got a court order that i have to show up for 150 euro fine, can anyone explain how this works? *apparentely this is the bail money when i dont show up*

Do i have to wear a suit?
Will this go on my permanent record?
Do you advice to see a solicitor before hand?
Should i go to court before hand to get an explanation how everything works?

    What happened is this;

A (foreign) taxi driver tried to charge me too much for the ride because i was drunk, when i refused to pay he refused to let me out, i felt threatened so something snapped, and i was provoking him and beat up his car.

This is the first time in 4 years that i've been in ireland that something like this happened, never been in touch with gardai in any other way.

P.S. I did not hit the guy himself or abused him, just the vehicle damage which might be a broken off mirror and a few dents.

I went on a binge because my relationship of 3 years just ended, normally i am not aggresive or abusive in any way.

Will this all have great concequences? How much will a sollicitor cost over there? Will the court appointment be to decide the amount needing to be paid in damages?

    Thanks for the possible answers.

Also posted this in the public services board, but i think it might be more appropiate here. Not looking for legal advice, just some explanation on how stuff like this works, as i never dealt with it before.

Like I said. If you've been bailed you have to show up in court or you owe the state the money and there will be a bench warrant issued for your arrest. You should talk to a solicitor.

I know, but also wondering how everything will go, the police said i could go there and talk to a solicitor before my trial, and im just wondering how serious things are.

I have no issues with paying for the damages etc. so im wondering if i really need a solicitor as i dont want to deny any charges made.

And its not like there is a chance to go to jail i think.

And thank for the info btw, much appreciated.

/edit: And if i go talk to a solicitor, any reccomendations and an estimate how much this would cost? (If this is not allowed, please tell me or edit it away.)

Go speak to a criminal defence solicitor.

Tell him/her everything and they will discuss you're options.

Ask the solicitor about costs - only they can advise you on that. Don't delay

If you are on bail you should notify the station. Just in case another volcano erupts and you cant get home.
