    Hi,

I have applied for the above role in a local authority and the interview is coming up shortly. I have a rough idea of what the role entails but am just looking for more information, maybe there is something I've missed.

Any info would be greatly appreciated....thanks!

Mods, feel free to move if in wrong section!

Asst CDO? Have you ever been in the civil defence? If not it would be a very good idea to attend a few classes in your locality (ask permission of the officer running the class first) to get an idea of what happens during CD training.

ring the CD HQ or School and ask them to send you an information pack. Get to know the hierarchy, what roles report to whom etc. e.g, who does a Commander report to.

If you are or were in the CD previously then you'll need to show that you understand not just what CD does but also the limitations of budgets, the structure of CD nationally etc. You may also want to try and find out what interaction Irish CD has with International CD.

I served with CD (in Rescue) for 3.5 years and absolutely loved it. :)

EDIT: Basically it's an Admin role and probably requires some liaison with Gardaí, Army and media as well as the public. I assume there is a responsibility for budgets and training. You would probably need to know about what permissions are needed in our area to stage an exercise. e.g. contacting gardaí to let them know, informing the local authority about the exercise, informing radio broadcast authorities if radio handsets are to be used etc.
