Well lads my springer has had tonnes of dummy work now, fetching on command, retreiving from cover, from the river and the far side of the river so im very happy with that. She has also has a couple of a few woodcock and snipe shot over her near the end of the season and made retreives so she's definintly game.

I have a pair of pheasent wings and woodcock wings at home and i wanted to start her retreiving a dummy with wings on it from now on. Whats the best way to attach wings to a 1lb training dummy so that they can last being pegged into cover and the water?

i just use a couple of large elastic bands that way when they get all raggy and worn you can just replace them

I haven't, just thinking out loud, should have said that! Landkeeper likely has the better idea with wings getting tatty.

insolation tape worked good for me

I used a few cable ties & tape on the rough egdes. Still going 2 years on.
Don't throw it by the wings & any method should last.

I don't like the wings to be stuck to the body from both ends but rather pinned ar the top for reality so the wings can move like a dead bird. So if they pick it by the wing they wont have a right grip & learn to grab it properly. Water is great to encourage a proper carry as they aren't thinking about it or playing with it, they just grab it...

I found braid fishing line very good, elastics work well too!

+1 on cable ties, make sure to cut the ends, carry a few spare ties with you as well,,;)

I just wrapped mine in tape. When they started falling apart I re-wrapped them. I have had this set of three for three years now.

I've also been training the springer on magpies. I bring him when checking the traps & he gets a few throws of any captives.
Has him mad keen now... Ready made disposable dummys :D
