I'm heading to Alaska (Anchorage) tomorrow for a conference and I have about 5 extra days in the country afterwards before my flight leaves.

Could anyone recommend some activities - looking for a bit of adventure!

Unfortunately, it seems as though a lot of the National Parks don't open until the end of May which seems kind of strange. What else is there to do?!

The whole of Alaska is a national park. It is still winter over there are the moment so that is why they are not offically open.

Hire a car and go to Whittier, Seward, Hope etc..

I went to Anchorage about 7 years ago and travelled around in an RV for about a week.

    - unforgettable. Blinding scenery and when you get outside the city the place is crammed with wildlife. Pity you can't get in to the parks - surprised at that, we took a tour around Denali Park which was brilliant, grizzly bears, caribou etc etc

If you can take a cruise out on the Prince William Sound to the glacier face make sure to do that, great trip and the sound of the glacier cracking and occasionaly breaking and falling in to the lake is something else. Great idea for a day trip.

Also went to a natural hot spa...that was cook but cant remember the name of the place...I'll edit this post if I can find out.

Apart from that, the towns are quite small and won't have a lot to offer, but it doesn't really matter - it's really the outdoors that will impress.

EDIT - just noticed I never read you're post properly and you may be back already...christ...must stop skim-reading....
