    HI,

During the week of a big race(particularly a marathon) what stratagies do people use?
Eat lots of carbs, but how much?
Drink lots of water, again, how much?

Do you use a guide from a book or website?

I was reading the McMillian race week doc and what is proposed is a hell of a lot of eating and drinking, right up until the race gun!

I was thinking of following it, until I worked out that eating 700g's of carbs a day, is very hard to achieve....
    3x weetabix 46g
    2x bagel 84g
    1 pk of tortalini 120g
    1x rice/potatos/pasta 50g ish
    etc etc....

So what did you do before your big race?

I made a big pot of pasta and tuna and ate a bowl of that between my normal meals for 3-4 days beforehand. So I had 3 extra bowls of the pasta on top of my normal food per day but stopped 24 hours before the race and went back to just eating my normal food. You need to drink lots while eating the extra carbs...you're body needs the water to store the carbs. Again, stop with the excess water consumption the evening before the race. A little water, often, works for the water drinking rather than drinking pints of it in one go.

I drank too much the morning of the marathon and ended up having to stop for a waz after 7 miles. Won't make that mistake this year.

Are you recommending that as raceweek nutrition/hydration? No thanks.
