    Hi all

I have bought and restored a 1982 car and the place where the chassic numder was rotten and had to be cut out and replaced with loads of other spots aswell .

My problem is when i took it for nct they refused to test it as there is no number stamped into the chassis the only number is on the vin plate.

Is there any thing I can do to fix this problem legally so I can get the car tested and back on the road?

    Thanks for any help

I know scimitars were made without any chassis number stamped into the frame only on the VIN plate mounted in the engine bay. They are not the only car either I think. Can't see how this can be a rule if certain cars left the factory without stamped chassis numbers.

Never knew the NCT even looked for the VIN stamped on the car.

...put the number back on: punch the no back on.

Actually, not to hijack the thread. I have both chassis and vin plate in a plastic box in the car. They were removed during the restoration! Should I put these back on?

D or E? The position of VIN number should be on the right side of the vehicle. Beside the front seat.

Won't solve your problem but it seems you met an aspiring Hitler at the test centre.

All they need is the Reg No. A protest to NCT HQ might get the pr*ck a poke up the derreire... and soften his attitude in future.

Can't see anything in the test manual that says the VIN / Chassis No has to be stamped on the shell. Just that it is on the vehicle.

"The Vehicle Identification Number on the vehicle must correspond with the information on the Vehicle Registration File/Book/Licence Certificate. Where difficulty is encountered in locating the Vehicle Identification Number it is the responsibility of the applicant to establish the location of this information on the vehicle."

    further:
"Testers may refuse a test in the following circumstances:

(iv) where a Registration Book/Licence Certificate is not produced and the vehicle identification number does not correspond with the National Car Testing Service (N.C.T.S.) vehicle file.
    (v) where the Registration Book/Licence Certificate is produced and the vehicle identification number on the vehicle does not correspond with either the Registration Book/Licence Certificate or the N.C.T.S. vehicle file."
