question was recently asked - do a search.
Many folks blame shoes but if you ask me its just means that your legs wern't aclimatised for the exercise you have embarked on.
Expensive running shoes didn't help me but 3 months rest did.

just an inbalance between your tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius(ie. shin and calves..just trying to sound smart haha) some athletes with an imbalance will specifically target their shin muscles by putting a weight on their toes when their foot is flat on the ground and raising their foot upwards using their shin muscles...a decent pair of runners are a necessity too

Lots of different causes. I had very bad shin splints that use to kick in within a minute of running. My main problem was fallen arches. I got orthotics to wear to help this. I also got a proper runner with arch support and gel inserts for them to increase shock absorbance. Losing weight helped as well. There are a number of stretches to help too. And try increasing your running distance gradually. If they are really bad go to a physio in case it is a problem with your alignment or arches.

i have fallen arches and used to get them when we trained on astroturf in the winter. basically now i don't do any type of running on hard surfaces. orthotics have been brilliant though to help my feet in general, not cheap but worth every penny imo

I have read a fair bit on shin splints recently, being that I am having a bit of trouble with them.

    What I learned:

Shin splints is a catch-all term (which are often the most silly/dangerous terms) for pain in the front or sides of the lower leg. As such it does not refer to one specific thing, but can be a few different things.
These range from not so bad to very bad indeed.

As such, Go to a physio.
A physio would know if it needs orthotics, if it needs orthotics and be able to refer you

Do not listen to any internet advice other than what is in bold right there.

What d'oracle said. Shin splints can mean a lot of things. Worth seeing a professional.
