Peak Time Techno

I've been listening to and playing a lot deep house and moody tech house for quite a while now, I want to get more into some decent techno - last few gigs I've been at I was absolutely loving the big room chunky driving techno. I have a few bits and bobs of it here and there but need some direction.

Those in the know, hit me up!

I normally hate anything that has the description 'main room' or 'big room'. Normally means sidechained noise bursts and sh1te tracks.

However, check out some of Shed's heavier stuff, actually a good bit of the stuff on Ostgut (Ben Klock, Dettman, etc).

If you really want to go hard, just go for Regis, Surgeon, etc.

My "peak time" might be your "sleep time" so maybe take these as just suggestions

Slam's hot knives is really huge (though not very recent).
Legowelt's new remix on rush hour (I know, electro not techno) is huge
PAS - Mod (again not so recent)
    PAS - X speaks to X (Al tourettes & T++)
    Dettmann -Lattice (and again old)
Shake Shakir's new one (released last week I forget the name)
Adam X's Transversable wormhole stuff is madness
    Ancient Methods - Burial

    'big room chunky driving techno'

The thought of that makes me queasy.

Yeah I know the 'peak time' description is not perfect but lets face it techno as a genre is extremely wide so its kinda hard to describe. I'm not looking for anything as hard as the Surgeon stuff - and no not the noisy stuff either..

Actually one thing to note is how different some stuff can sound when on a good system. Even some minimal which doesn't sound particularly great on headphones can blow you away on a whopper sound system

Anything by Mark Broom would probably be on the money for what you are looking for. Stephan Bodzin maybe.

Would have to say - I usually have an aversion as well to anything described as 'peak time' or 'big / main room', but I know what you're talking about - sometimes you listen to a track on headphones or even just on speakers at a low volume and don't think much - then you hear it out on a big system (or in the big room ), and it sounds huge.

Recommendations.... hmmm.... The newer Slam stuff? (Hot knives was mentioned, Collecting Data is also another big one), Cari Lekebusch has a couple of recent ones (Robs Melody and Merry Go round), Par Grindvik And Staffan Linzatti - Lights Up On (Seven Shattered Thoughts Version) - love this one - will youtube it below. Apart from these - Pan Pot? D. Diggler (I'm a bit of a fan boy of his), Maetrik?

Cheers Joker, funnily enough I was at the Pan Pot gig from a few weeks back and it was a brilliant night, loved his music. I remember saying to acman 'this is proper techno - I want more of this!!"

A few artists that do it for me, and "could be" classed as peak time, well, they are certainly big producers and well established,

Virgil Energiser,Secret Cinema,The Advent vs Industrialyzer ,DJ Hell,
,Bas Mooy,Ben Teufel, Maxime Dangles,A. Mochi

and 2 tunes ive just got at beatport, not exactly peak time but certainly mind blowing , deep dark and really different, :

Surrealist - Im a Walking Disaster

and Decibel Flekx - Dissipative System

    happy exploring

This is the best Techno tune ive heard this year to date, top stuff:cool:

Errol Dix - Indescribable Feelings - Claudio Ponticelli Remix (5:36)
Work hard Play Hard lay down their contribution for the week here and Claudio Ponticelli drops a wicked remix! Another track that sits on the tough and funky fence but has that deeper feel as well which makes this a big room weapon that isa an essential addition to any worthy techno CD wallet!

This is a fckin great track actually and one I'd be happy to lash out at 1am.

Redshape - The Playground (Original Mix)

An old one but one that I reckon would have to stand the test of time and fit well at the height of a night.

    The Martian - Star Dancer

phenomenal track, sounds absolutely brilliant on a big system.

other great "big room" (god i hate that phrase) tracks of the top of my head would be

i could go on but the thread will just turn into one of those youtube clip threads

in relation to secret cinema, went to see his live set at awakefest last year not expecting anything as his tracks are pure ****e these days but he was savage, no glitchy cheap sounding tech house ****e at all, it was great

I find a lot of that Shed stuff boring to ****. That planetary assualt system album is excellent, not sure why I haven't picked it up yet. The miller and keane sounds weak but laptop speakers and youtube videos don't do that kind of techno ANY justice. Then again I could tell I like the reeko and Phantom regiment tracks straight off regardless. Love the martian - star dancer track too, goes in wantlist!

Stuff along the same lines as this?

Par Grindvik - Do Us Part (Len Faki Remix).

How do I make YouTube videos appear on the screen?

didn't realise this was shed til the other day when i read this. so obvious it's him once it's been pointed out. got wax 2002 and 3003 there about two weeks ago (ironically from juno). have wax 1001 sitting in my hardwax crate waiting for my credit card to start talking to me again.

I've had a huge battle with my hardwax basket over the last week or so - it's been up over 600 and back down to 200 and now again dwindling around the 500 mark.... I need to stop browsing, be brutal and delete enough to get me to 100! So bloody difficult though.

jeepers man. i'd say with your penchant for dub-techno you really are fcuked with hardwax. I mean any store that has 'Basic Channel' as a category is a recipe for a very delighted but bankrupt scuba.

I actually don't have that problem too much with hardwax. They keep the detroit, house, techno sections fairly manageable i think. Managed to trim down to 100 from 200 yesterday.

On juno i've run up stupid totals in my crate. 800 at one stage. but that was a good 6 hours browsing.

Yeah it's dub techno paradise - but the problem is that I'm also heavily browsing the electro, detroit and techno categories to include much older releases that I never picked up over the years... all of which add up to sh1t loads of music that I desperately want but can't afford!

Having mentioned Orlando Voorn in the random thread, it reminded me of this gem - I've no doubt this would still work on any dancefloor... well except maybe Spy :pac:

    Format - #1 - Solid session
