Using mystical powers of a holy man to train soldiers?

Are Mulder and Scully investigating this?

The long-haired and bearded yogi is under 24-hour observation by a team of 30 doctors during three weeks of tests at a hospital in the western city of Ahmedabad.

Diet, my ass - he's been eating all the pick-en-ic baskets.

Diet fad - a publisher's wet dream. E.g. write a book about sensible healthy eating (and avoiding processed carbs), call it the G.I. diet, couple of celebrity endorsements and... ching ching!

Indian doctors are studying a remarkable 83-year-old holy man who claims to have spent the last seven decades without food and water.

He walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. His non-existent diet made him rather frail and he suffered from bad breath.

This made him a super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

Jani says he meditates to get energy....

...He claims to have been blessed by a goddess when he was aged eight, which has enabled him to survive without sustenance.

mmmm hmmm just as I thought, this is definitely true

Wow,some people really are stupid. If you want to lose weight then just expend more calories then you intake.Learn your own psychological tricks/coping mechanisms to make it easier. It's so simple but some people like to mystify it to make money.

Don't joke. I lived in Dublin long enough to know there are some D4 girls that will take this crap seriously and die of dehydration in three days.

We'll have to stock up on Darwin awards.

Now forgive me for being the one to ask retarded questions here but how is it possible to expend calories that you havent taken on? (i.e if you take 2000 calories how can you burn off more than 2000)

your body converts it's fat stores into energy to suppliment the calorie burn.

I was speaking figuratively. Average adult consumes 2000 calories per day. More excercise and less calorie intake gives you a figurative -calorie balance, and you lose weight.

This has been tried before, going under the name of Inedia or Breatharianism i.e. living on (mostly) thin air. It has led to a few deaths - mostly in Scotland, for some reason. e.g. this case.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

I read that some people died of starvation and malnutrition in New York in the 70's for the same reasons. They eliminated more and more foods from their diet until they ate nothing but brown rice, with the intention of eliminating that eventually too. They died first though.
I seem to recall the diet being called macrobiotic, although that is clearly different from the current fad, and a quick google does not confirm the term was used to describe this diet.

edit: Yes it was an early version of the macrobiotic diet
Ohsawa brought his teachings to the United States in the 1960s. His diet involved 10 stages that were progressively more restrictive. The last stage consisted only of brown rice and water. This restrictive diet was found to be unhealthy and is no longer promoted by macrobiotic counselors.....One of the earlier versions of the macrobiotic diet that involved eating only brown rice and water has been linked to severe nutritional deficiencies and even death

Well people that claim to only live off water. I'm trying to remember the documentary I saw him in. I think it was about immortality. Some crazy breaded guy reckons we'll all be immortal before the end of the century.

Right, so his name written on his picture explains who he is, what he does, and your reference to him relating to this topic?

    Fail.

So based on your logic, I suppose you know all about this guy then? And if I made a reference to him, you'd get it yeah?
