    (first leg 1-0 to AM)

    Liverpool starting 11

    Riena
    Johnson--Carra-Soto-Agger
    Masch--Lucas
    Gerrard---Aquilani----Yossi
    Babel

I cannot imagine it being anything else unless Kuyt and N'Gog have made at least 80% recovery.

Aguero is back for the Spaniards so will partner Diego "Barn Door" Forlan.

No reason to expect much out of this game.

Get ready for Olympiacos all over again.

    I see a 3-1 win for Liverpool.

Bayern in the final of the CL and us looking to get into the final of the Europa cup. It is 2001 all over again. :D

Interesting. Good to see Aguero back.

    Interesting.

    nobody else.

    Torres definitely out obviousl.

Dirk and N'Gog will be injured too it seems.

plus Babel's a striker by trade.

Pretty sure Lucas will start and at Aqua's expense.

I can't remember a game were Babels played as an out and out striker for Liverpool. Should be interesting to see how he does.

    N'Gog is injured?

I'd love to be wrong but Atléti have been atrocious for almost all of the season. I can easily see them getting beaten by two or more goals. I'd love to be wrong, but I think Liverpool will progress on away goals at the very least.

you are wrong we didn't score an away goal

He complained of a back strain after the game last week,so i think he's "carrying a knock" and they wont know til before the game.

Interesting to see if babel will play upfront,I think he should be given the chance.I know Athletico have had a poor season but they are as un-predictable as they come so looking forward to this game. 5-5 thriller

Sorry, wasn't thinking there. They'll win by one goal at least then. My mistake.

Will Benitez actually start Babel though? Surely that's too obvious a thing to do for a tactical mastermind like Benitez...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he will. There's not much to pick from the bench and we'll probably be without Kuyt and N'Gog.

I'm hoping Gerrard might carry some form through with Aquilani to partner and get the side really going.

Athletico were really poor this season so hopefully they'll have a stinker tonight.

Yeah, and to add, I get why you've posted such a concern. He's made some very erratic decisions over his time at Liverpool.

They've had a comparable season to Liverpool really.

Oh yeah, certainly, but what I'm saying is that they aren't up against a team in form or a very decent side, so the chances of progressing will be made that little bit easier. And being at home will certainly lift the team.

Liverpool 1 - 0 after 90minutes and Liverpool to grab a winner in extra time.

Hoping for a hard fought game for 120 minutes that Liverpool win and be less then a 100% for Sunday. ;)

Atleti blow hot and cold. If it's the side that turned up against Barca, they can win. That night they were incredibly dangerous on the counter-attack and should have got more. If it's the side that turned up against Malaga, then Liverpool should have no trouble steam-rolling through them.

There's no telling what Atleti side will turn up. That said they have performed noticeably better in away ties than the home ones in the Europa League this year.

I'm hoping this will go to penalties and that Liverpool are given a real tough game tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,482 ✭✭✭✭Ush1

I'd fancy Liverpool over the bi-polar Atleti but Liverpool should defo start Babel, type of player Atleti don't like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I want Liverpool to lose because I always find they bounce back rather well against top 4 teams.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,859 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

I honestly have no idea how this game will go. I can see Athletico scoring at some point though, but beyond that I don't know. It could be a disaster or joy for us tonight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭The Recliner

    Honestly not confident about tonight

    Hopeful but not confident

Like everyone else I see Athletico scoring and I don't think we will score 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,466 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    2-1 Liverpool.

    i've my pessimistic hat on.

if Stevie's up for it, we could do it though.

he might thrive; you just never know. semi-final, big occasion, and all that.

Wishing thinking on my part, but the way things happened to have Babel up front on his own, it could be the fresh change required to get the result. Athetico wont like him running at them, i can see him nick a goal or two.

I think we'll win 1-0. Then god only knowa what will happen

First leg was dire, not expecting much more from the second. One nil Athletico.

Quote from Danny Murphy in Herald tonight
We [Fulham] are talking about reaching a final which would be one of the greatest achievements in our history, whereas at Liverpool they are talking abut reaching the same final as a consolation. That puts it into perspective a little bit

    Indeed

Madrid will score, 100% sure of that.

Highly doubt Liverpool will score 3.

    We're out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

So, it looks like the formation could be

    Reina

    Masch
    Carra
    Agger
    Johnson

    Lucas
    Gerrard

    Benayoun
    Aqua
    Babel

    Kuyt

BBC say Monkey9 is not nuts and thats the formation. What chance Kuyt will last only a half at best?

Torres was in the stadium a short time ago and went over to the Atletico supporters, he was walking without any help and showing no signs of his surgery.
