    Hi,

The Bational Broadband Scheme operated by 3 has become live in my area. I currently have o2 wireless dongle and I can use the net even though its only a GPRS signal.

Should I get this 3 broadband, it costs the same but I'd be entering into a years contract and what if it's no good.

Does anyone that uses this NBS broadband have any thoughts for me on it.

    Thanks

To be honest if your happy with 02 your better off staying with O2, have a read of all the threads about Three Broadband in this forum and you';ll get an idea of the various problems customers have had

I just thought that I might actually be able to get "Broadband" as opposed to the GPRS signal that i am currently receiving.

The o2 works good sometimes but it's never great.

Whoops didn't notice you meantioned its GPRS with O2, if Three will give you a 3G signal hen yeah you could try it atleast...however if you can get ADSL I'd get that instead

No ADSL here my friend, I'm living in the "STICKS".

Wouldn't hold my breath that we'll ever have anything like it.

I'd say I should chance the 3 NBS thing.

I wonder how will I fair out if it's ****e and I want to cancel the contract

I'm not in an NBS area, however I'm on the edge of one. Switched from O2 to Three and I'm getting speeds of 1.5mbs min too 4.5mbs max. Average is 2.5ish. Very happy with it, O2 always below 1mbs.

Afaik when you get it you have a 2 week period to bring it back. After that you're tied into the contract for a year.

Shhhhhh!! Don't tell anyone, that speed is shared between everyone.
We'll see what its like in 6-9 months

Does anyone know how the repeater part of this package works ie. what cabling is needed to it etc etc.

Do 3 send out an engineer to install it or whats the crack?

    Thanks

Are you sure it's only GPRS and not EDGE? I've used o2 and Three in 6 NBS areas now, and o2's EDGE beat Three's 3G/HSPA in 4 of those areas. So it depends on the area.

Ask around to see if anyone else is using Three. If it's crap, you can get out of the year contract (your consumer law rights come in to play). However, it might be a pain to go through that argument with them, so best to check with other users first, if you can.

thats balls i hate seeing that green light on my modem only happens once a day if even always have HSPA with o2 also have 3 modem signal is alot bettter than o2 but thats just me..in the o2 software on your computer where you connect is it reading GPRS OR EDGE ??
EDGE will be alot better than GPRS just to tell you 3 have no EDGE OR GPRS so its on 3G/HSDPA so if your out of 3G you will have no access at all which is a bummer have you checked 3's signal in your area??

I never got a usable signal from 3 and they refused to give me the satellite connection they promised when I signed up. Am now grateful for my new extremely slow eircom broadband. 3 has been hounding me for money for the past 5 months and steadfastly ignoring all my letters etc. I contacted the local paper (Southern Star) but so far scant interest there.
