Anybody out there know if we could change the term period that the Governments are in office?

Can this be done? Lets say every 4 years instead of the current? Even have it like the U.S where a Government can only do 2 terms at max in succession.

As we all know Governments get too power happy the longer they stay in!!! That's when they start to abuse their position.

It's only the president that can only do 2 terms.
The 2 houses are an elected majority.

How do you propose we form elections after the 2 terms?
Ban the party, or 2 coalition parties, or 2 coalition parties and al the supporting independants that formed the previous Government?

God help us if a Rainbow coalition was formed for 2 terms, we'd have very few parties to choose from...!!!!

I get what your thinking though, it did cross my own mind before. Untill I thought of the above.

As for the term, I think it says up to 5 years in the constitution, so a referendum would be required. I might very well be wrong though. We'll soon find out.
