Keyboard advice

    Folks,

I want to buy a proper stage keyboard as I've had it on my mind for years without ever getting round to it. It's not for performance, just for messing around with and maybe saving some stuff to PC. I want to get a decent one, with a full 88-key keyboard and properly weighted keys. I would also like some effects; certainly strings and voice; preferably some more orchestral effects too.

The prices in Dublin seem to range between €700 and €2000 - I'd be looking to spend around a grand. Does anyone have any advice? Is it worth my while going up to Belfast to check out the prices there?

Check out the Roland RD range. Im not a piano player, but any of my friends that are love that thing. Apparently the weighting on the keys is as good as you will get on an electric keyboard.

Buy it online, but take a trip to Waltons or musicmaker to give it a bash first. In fact if waltons have it, make them an offer. They can generally be bargained to near internet prices.

That looks like it's right in your budget, I'm sure that leaves room to buy a recording interface for a pc.

Worth having a look anyway to see if the sounds are right for you.

Cheers folks, I have a feeling that because it's a pretty expensive thing to buy, I'll be unsure no matter what I pick. I just need to go and give a few a bash and see how they are.

You should check out the Casio Prvia PX-330, has loads of voices and rhythms and SD Card slot for transferring from comp to keyboard, otherwise you can just use the usb or midi on it for recording. Also a pitch bend wheel on it which is very cool to use for recording.
