Peter, maybe you should take off your stabilisers (see photo) & shoot like a big boy :D.
Hope you have a better time in AP, & CF & shoot to or above your PB.
And very best to Garry also.

Not sure about that. I think the score shot by Stanford in Moscow was higher, and unlike rifle, I don't think the Free Pistol target has been changed since.

    Jaysus

Let the man revel in the glory of a good innings for a day or two before ye start to pick holes in it.

Well done - best of luck in the other events.

Enjoy yourself and take no heed of these nit pickers.

Nice one. Some pretty solid scores coming in now! Now to see how FLOYDSTER gets on in the prone. Good warm up for the world championships to get the Hanover and Plzen trips in.

Two 400s shot in Women's 10m Air Rifle. Now that's a final worth seeing! Shooting a perfect score and finding out you're still only in second coming into the final is going to suck balls. Though for what it's worth, she won it after the final.

Pfeilschifter had 39 inner tens

    And lost

    That's gotta hurt!

Yeah. You'd nearly be more pissed at losing the 40th inner ten than the final! :p Her final was a 97, which really isn't on form for her at all. Only made a 101.9 Still, that's a day to remember, and another 400 for her collection.

With shooters getting perfect score, isnt it time to shrink the target or increase the distance? Like with RF Pistol, they basically changed from .22 short to .22 LR.

They're more likely to change the kit rules again.

Either that or extend the AR40 to match the men's AR60.

I dunno. Perfect scores need to be achievable at the same time. It's not like Joe Soap can do them. You can be world class without ever hitting a perfect score in competition. I think that technical proficiency should mean you can hit the ten, and the rest of it is the head game. Let's face it, shrink the target and these people will still get perfect scores, because that's what they're about; it's not that their technical skill will only get them those scores on the current target.

The air final was very good to watch and very close the best final I have watched all week. I am shooting my .32 at 8am this morning and FLOYDSTER is on at 9.35 I think.:)

second coming into the final is going to suck balls.

That's the most obvious thing to do.

Otherwise, if all matches at this level are now shot on electronic targets, why not score the 40 shots on decimals? It would actually be fairer scoring, and the basic target could be left unchanged for the ordinary domestic shooters.

They're not though. A lot of high level matches use Gehmann boxes and the like, and scoring decimally by hand would be frighteningly expensive in terms of time in that case. Not entirely sure about airgun, but I've a feeling that electronic target changers are still prevalent in some places. There's also a good argument against changing the way you score the shots between domestic and international level from a psychological perspective.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Just had word from Gary. He had a 591 with an 8 from a dodgy round! Landed right down at six o'clock. For those who know him, Dave Moore from the Isle of Man had a cracker of a match with a 595.

Also the cheapest, so the least likely to cause complaints.

As said already, not all matches are shot on electronics, but this would certainly be the way to go in a decade or two when electronics become more prevalent.

There is also an argument in terms of fairness for keeping the targets as they are. Kit requirements would increase as tighter groups are demanded to get the higher decimal scores. Any good rifle and good ammunition is capable of holding the inner ten ring, but after that, any increase in qualitative performance gets exponentially more difficult. A rifle that holds 10.4 all the time is one thing. A rifle that holds 10.5 is significantly better, and one that holds 10.6 would be the holy grail (in smallbore terms. Air rifles do group better, to about 10.7-10.8). So you still have a variable there, which means there's still an element of chance within the grouping as to where the shot will fall. It's not entirely technically perfect. That's why the separation in terms of inner tens is fairer, in my opinion, because most people will have a rifle capable of holding that, if they've matched decent ammo to it and spent some time testing it. If the entire thing becomes decimally scored, then you'll end up with an arms race, and the focus on the actual skill of the technical shooting, and condition reading, gets distracted somewhat. I don't think there's a problem until you're starting to see perfect scores with perfect inner ten counts on a reasonably regular basis. If you change the target you make it more technical and take the sport out of the head somewhat, which is where it needs to stay.

Gary was 30th out of 115 with people like Guy Starik and Christian Lusch just ahead of him. Excellent result even allowing for the dodgy round. Wonder who's about to get a box of ammo pushed into a tight spot? ;)

Peter finished with a 524 in 13th place. Mick Gault won with a 580. Very few competitors; looked like a result sheet from Rathdrum :D

Nice to see IRL on the results pages once again.

It's a bit early to be getting excited about perfect scores; since the first time a 400/400 was shot in 2002, it has only been equalled 18 times in ranking competitions (ISCH would not be a ranking competition).

It would only become a possible problem were there to be more than eight people reaching the score in a qualifying round, but the introduction of the inner ten as a tie breaker two years ago makes it easy enough to decide who goes into the final.

    When they're all getting 40 inners, then you've a problem ;)

    First shot 10.6 second shot 8.7???, I thought wtf!!, next string was a 98 with 2 x 9.9's!!
Looks like 7 if not all 8 shooters in the final came from the first detail!!, maybe I'll get first detail next year! lol, some nice shooting even though!, 599 x 600 is a result no matter how calm it is!!

Lets hope Plzen goes a little better!:D

What ammo was it FLOYDSTER? Name and shame :D

Nice shooting nontheless. You missed an exciting indoor match, but I'd say you would have traded it for the 591 in Hannover given the choice ;)

Batch testing doesn't imply better quality ammo, just ammo better suited to your rifle.

We both know a guy who used never use rounds from the outside layer of the box because he reckoned it was most likely to be damaged by coming in contact with the side of the box. There's more room for movement in the centre and less likelihood of contact causing damage.

You really should go through each box of ammo before you use it. Each round has the score marked on it and with top level stuff, the 8's will really stand out :D

It's very hard to tell how much primer is inside the round by looking at the outside of the case.
