I can't claim any expert knowledge, but perhaps you need to use some kind of exfoliant wash or cleanser to shift dead skin. If you can bear the thought of approaching them, one of those fragrant girlies on the cosmetics counters in Clery's or Brown Thomas might well be able to point you in the right direction.

I think you should see a dermatologist there are a host of treatments available.

    This might be helpful

I agree with Miss5. I didn't even realise you could get blackheads on your neck. I think you need to go to your GP and get a referral to a dermatologist as this doesn't sound like something that makeup counter ladies are qualified to advise you on.

I can't remember when I had a blackhead last, ever since I started using the neutrogena wave I have never had a problem I got it ages ago and use it every three days. It exfoliates my face and after I use it I moisturize and I feel alot fresher.

When I studied beauty in my course I learned how it was VERY important to cleanse, tone and moisturize evey morning and then evey three or four days to exfoliate. You should find out what skin type you are and get some prooducts to suit your skin. I found out that I have combination skin and using products that correspond with my type of skin has made it better and healthier.

Have a Dermalogica face mapping consultation. This is offered by a wide range of beauticians for both women and men. As far as I know it is free. Then based on the results they will recommend certain products.
    Check out http://www.dermalogica.com/ir/#/home

After the consultation you might want to just buy travel sized products online initially to see how you get on and they tend to be cheaper online. Adonis Grooming in the UK seems to offer good value on dermalogica products.

Also some products from Lush are quite good e.g.Dark Angels.

Just a word of caution, some products are often recommended for daily use but can often be quite drying and you can get dry, peeling effects. If this happens you could cut back to using them every other day. Also continue to use a moisturiser in oily areas otherwise the skin will just compensate and produce more sebum.

    Hope this helps.

Blackheads are caused by the excess oil and sebum in your pores oxidising with the air. Whiteheads are oil and sebum which haven't oxidised! They are easy to extract...see a beautican for a heat treatment...this will open all your pores and they can perform and extraction to remove most of them. Then use a good exfoliant with salicytic acid which will keep your pores clean. I recommend dermalogicia daily microfoliant. Can be used daily. Hope this helps.

I agree, a good beautician will be able to 'extract' the blackheads for you in a hygienic and non-scarring way. Don't have a go at it yourself, you could end up hurting yourself and scarring your skin.

Dermalogica is great for problem skin and the packaging is very neutral so if you're male and concerned about what your bathroom shelf looks like you should look into it!

I developed a blackhead on my face recently. Really annoying as I have always had a clear skin. I have exfoliated for many years.
I got hold of tip of blackhead with tweezers and pulled it out in a split second. It was about 1/8th inch long. Thought that was the end of it. Then a white head appeared, same hole. Out with the tweezers and same again it was out in a second again the same length as the blackhead. Trouble is its left a mark which gets angry red all the time and keeps weeping pussy stuff freqently and looks horrible of course.
There seems to be a mountain of info on the internet on how to remove Black and Whiteheads but I can't find anything on how to permantly get rid of this blotch thingy!!!!.

I really do hope this is not something I have to live with now!.

I do all the right things generally. drink lots of water/ mediteranean diet/fresh air etc.
Was thinking of asking the local doctor to freeze it And slash it with a knife or something..what do ya think. lol.:D

I just grew out of greasy skin in my mid twenties, you might too!

In the meantime you just need to have a really pedantic skin routine to keep blackheads at bay- you'll need to do a lot more than people with naturally clear skin. It's a pain but it's the only way to control oily skin. I found salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide and adapalene products very good.

I get blackheads on my nose and the only thing that clears them up is benzoyl peroxide cream two or three times a week.

where can you get tat cream?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 496 ✭✭rantyface

Every pharmacy stocks it under a few brand names. I actually found the 2.5% used twice every day a lot better. The 5% and 10% benzoyl peroxide creams make my skin peel.

Find a good, reputable beautician and ask them for their advice, might also be worth talking to your GP as someone else has already stated. It might cost a little at the start but so could trying 20 different types of washes\creams!

I get them all over. A good tweezers after a shower does the trick. A nailclippers can be handy too

I wouldnt encourage going at them yourself with any instrument! A good beautician will do the job for you and although it's a little sore it's well worth it. The girls in Westwood Gym's spa are great at facials and do discounts midweek! Also a good pore scrub always helps keep your skin clean

If it's 'really bad', I suggest going to your GP who might be able to prescribe something to calm your skin down on a more permanent basis. I don't they can ever go away totally though!
