help. i sold out a moped in October. and this April, i received a letter from the department of transport asking me to pay the new year road tax. i then found out i am still the owner of the moped i sold out.

now, i left a message to the buyer (through board), but not sure whether he would check or not. and also i did not keep his contact number.

in case i hear nothing back from him, what can i do to dis-own the moped?

You should never hand the VLC to the buyer. Always send it off yourself. For just the reason your now experiencing.

The people in Shannon are the ones to talk to here afaik.

This is why your supposed to post off the logbook not the buyer!!

If you know his name & address, go apply for a new logbook, fill in the buyers details & send it off to Shannon

i dont know that. because the previous owner just asked me to send it out after i took the moped.

ar, i dont have a clue his name and address!

i hope he would get back to me.

You say in your OP that you left a message to him on boards, is he still an active user here? Can you send him a private message again?

i dont think he's a regular user here.

anyway, will wait for a few days. and if no joy, will talk to the department of transport about this.

Ignore the letter, job done, they'll send another in a few months, on that one detail that you sold the moped in October 2009.

Just blame An Post for losing the log book, be surprised the amount of mysterious letter boxes around the country that nothing ever seems to arrive at it's destination if it's posted in em!

On the letter you recieved from Shannon it should have an option to tick that you no longer own the car. Fill in this form and bring it to your local motor tax office.

They will ask some questions tho, not too sure what kind tho :)

In the end the guards will pull the driver if it's not taxed sooner or later.

Just thought that you might want to get this sorted asap. If the driver goes through tolls and doesn't pay, the fines will go to you instead.

sorry, yawns, not native english speaker here, what does it mean by 'goes through tolls'?

    ar... troubles...

As far as I know it'll be on the letter that Shannon sent out to you. There's 3 options I believe. Only reason I know is I recieved one for a car I had bought, then sold on. I just ticked the box that I had sold it and all releveant paperwork had been sent and dropped it into the tax office while renewing tax. Didn't even ask was it ok, just dropped it in and said bye :D

i have read all over the form, just really cant find the box. tho eng. is my second lang, i still have fairly good english.

it's form RF100B, for moped, would it be a bit different?!?

part one is the important note about the date i should apply for the tax.

part two is the details of the moped, and the amount of money for a year road tax.

part three requires me to fill the insurance details.

part four is about the payment option.

oh, my goodness, just read the back:

WARNING: THE NON-DISPLAY OF A CURRENT TAX DISC ON A MOTOR VEHICLE IN A PUBLIC PLACE AT ANY TIME IS AN OFFENCE. ANY PERSON MAKING A FALSE DECLARATION, OR WHO FAILS TO NOTIFY ANY CHANGES IN RELATION TO THE VEHICLE WHICH AFFECTS ITS MOTOR TAX STATUS OR OWNERSHIP DETAILS INCLUDING ADDRESS OF REGISTERED OWNER IS COMMINTTING AN OFFENCE AND IS LIABLE TO HEAVY PENALTIES.

    :eek::eek:
