Assos Sizing

So I have a good few pairs of budget shorts, a few pairs of nicer shorts and now I think I need one pair of Assos for those longer cycles and sportives. I'm a little worried about ordering online, normally I'm ok with sizing being a bit off but with an expensive pair of shorts I don't want to go through the hassle of sending stuff back, waiting for replacements, etc.

I see that CSS have a better price than CRC for the Assos Uno bib (unless their happens to be a much better online deal?) which solves the problem of trying the shorts on and buying locally.

I'm just wondering what the situation is regards sizing. Height wise I seem to be on the border of M and L, but I don't want a pair of shorts that are either going to give me neck pain from short straps or have loose legs and no compression.

If any Assos wearers out there could share their stats so I can make a good guess. I'm 5'9"-5'10" depending on time of day, 37" chest and 30" waist. It's really the waist one that is annoying me, I don't want the shorts hanging off my midsection and moving around as I know this can cause problems with chaffing.

    Check Slane.

Regarding size, I wear M and experience some slack around the waist when in the drops. I'd say L will be far too large for you.

On the other hand my white M's suffer from major cameltoeage.

Yeah I kept trying not to look but there is also some crazy "beehive" honeycomb pattern going on there too, white is a bad bib colour for the crotch region.

I'm normally XLG, but can fit into either XL or XLG Assos bib-shorts quite comfortably (bit more of a struggle with the bib-tights though). If you are in-between, I think you'll be fine with the smaller size (and if not, it's an incentive to lose a couple of kg:))

EDIT - agree with Lumen re Slane - they are normally quite a bit cheaper (CRC don't seem to be doing much discount at all on Assos at present)

Dirk, I bought a pair of 2010 Assos F1 Uno shorts (in fetching white, bien sûr) in Slane Cycles at the weekend, £104 which is a great price.

Size wise, I'm roughly - 5'10, 30 waist, 38 chest. They gave me a size Medium which fit like a glove. I will admit that I haven't worn them on the bike yet but as I said, fit seems perfect. They are a class short.

One thing I can say is that the padded insert creates a very distinctive vulva-look, with the right labia slightly more pronounced than the left. This may or may not be so pronounced in other colours.

Note that the 2010 shorts DON'T come with a sample of chamois cream like the 2009 version did, but DO come with a wash bag which you can alert the significant woman in your life to ;-)

Looks like the "Mangina" is a running problem with the latest Assos shorts.

    Dirk,

Mediums will fit you, large will definitely not. Bear in mind that the S5 Mille and the S5 F1.13 are different fitting in the same size.

The S5 Mille has a looser leg and the S5 F1.13 has more of a compression fit.

    I'm 5' 11" and a very important Half !

    31" waist

I have a 2009 S5 F1.13 in large that fits like a glove .... but my 2010 S5 Mille is a Medium as the Large were too loose on the leg.

    Cheers guys, very helpful!

My Orwell (Spin11) shorts have an awful lot of "mangina", with the asymmetric look you (hilariously) described el tel, it's very upsetting, not as much as Lumen's honey filled beehive crotch, but still.

I was thinking of getting some Assos tights for the winter. Does sizing for tights go in line with tops. I'm 170 cm tall and a chunky build 88 kgs. I have XLG and TIR tops, so do I go for the same in tights?

    Thanks
