Weirdest thing you have ever received in a goody bag ?

Ran in Madrid the weekend. Got my goody bag and it was quite heavy. Had a look through and there was the usual crap, leaflets, sweets, energy bars a nice technical t-shirt etc.

The goody bag also had a large enough box which contained an air compressor (picture attached). Ideal for pumping car tyres and footballs! Was the strangest thing I've ever got in a goody bag. I left it behind in my hotel as it was too heavy to carry home in hand luggage.

That is completely mad. Far stranger than the jar of out-of-date mustard handed out at one of the Adidas series races in 2008. Still, you have to admit, it's one of the most valuable things ever handed out in a goodie bag after a race.

Got a tin of sardines in a goody bag at the UL/Plassey 10k in Limerick a few years back, you could walk clear across the car park on a bed of unopened john west tins without ever touching tarmac, surreal stuff

i was just thinking of this the other day..

    a tube of tooth paste.

I remember getting home and couldn't figure out why it was given out :)

I'd love toothpaste at the end of a race. Teeth are always "manky" after a race from all the gels and stuff

OT: does using the word "manky" age me? like gutties for trainers and bad for good.

Got a tube of Immac in a goody bag when I did the Women's Mini-Marathon as a teenager. Tried it and turned out to be allergic to it.

A wind-up mobile phone charger. Funnily enough, got it doing a 10k in Madrid. Something about those Madrileños, eh?

sounds like I need to get myself to spain, seems like they're ensuring you get back the following year, if I can't reinflate my car tyre on the way I can recharge my phone battery to call out the AA to get me there!

I seem to remember getting one of those small sachets of "freshen up" towels after the DCM one year, and thinking, it's going to take a lot more than this to freshen me up ...

At the inter-varsities just gone in Santry we got two packets of chocolate flavor condoms in the goody bag. Lots of odd balloons flying around on the saturday night at the after ball

Whiskey, not so much weird as a shame other races don't do the same.

I did hear of a sports industry expo event, family fun run thing, which had a builders providers or the like as sponsor. The kids got lucky dip bags afterwards which contained anything from a box of self tappers to rawl plugs.

Looks of disappointment were the order of the day apparently.

At the Joey Hannon last year you got hair gel or hair wax. A couple of girls didn't want theirs and thus dumped them into my bag. Kept me going until last week and Joey is on again this weekend :D

The entire goodie bag at Gael force west. Strange in that there wasn't a single goodie in the bag

Arnica gel, deep-acting muscle balm and cracked heel repair cream in the Beast of the East goody bag in '08. All useful post-race oddly enough...

Gutties for trainers just gives away the fact that you must originate from near enough to, or in the North! :)

"Manky" on the other hand does possibly put you at a particular vintage. :D

i thought the family-sized pack of chocolate eclairs after the Great Ireland Run was a bit odd. But then I read this thread...

Toothpaste = good idea. Take note organisers.

Manky is still OK no? Maybe I'm pushing on myself!

Gutties might make you sound northern. We use tackies in Limerick, which is odd but I've also heard it from South Africans and from English girls who went to posh schools!

Came home from Joey Hannon with several hair gels yesterday.

As for unusual things to get - at registration on Saturday everyone was handed a large 200g block of cheddar cheese with chives - having some now, tis lovely...

Im hoping that cheese is still ok having spent two days in my car :P

...... and her in doors was delighted with the anti ageing cream.

Its a long time since I had enough hair to use hair gel (gets misty eye'd).

    Nice t shirts though

I'll swap you the hair gels for my 'unique' collection of junk mail leaflets and no goodies that came with my Great Limerick Run goody bag :). Unless you also want last Saturdays Irish Times as well?

What did you do to get the full paper?! I only got the health supplement from the previous Tuesday...

Got a bag of pita breads (should have been five in the pack, but two already taken out) after the Around the Bay 30k here in Canada. Weird Canadians.

I think my tube of Beverly Hills toothpaste is still knocking around somewhere.

... and the stressball from the Dublin Paddys Day 5k a couple of years a go.

Also have a stack of Spar lunchboxes. One or two is useful - 10 is a pain.

Edinburgh Marathon 2008 - There was a potato in the goodie bag.
Sponsored by potato/veg company. Very weird.:)

You beat me to it. I was reading all the above and ir reminded me of the potato in Edinburgh. What was even worse was it was a microwaveable one. Didn't see too many microwaves in Musselburgh at the end of the run. Needless to say I didn't bring mine home.

    LOL! :D

Yet, if it was some processed carbohydrate thing with some science-guff printed on the sachet, we wouldn't laugh at all. :o You did bake it and eat it, yeah?

    Aren't all potatoes microwaveable?

I got one of those coin key ring things for supermarket trolleys once at a 10km run

    I think I was at the same race - MySport 10k 2010?
I thought that the keyring thing was great, I'm never stuck for change for a locker down at the pool anymore :)
The car air freshener with the same branding in the same bag that had no scent was a bit pointless though

Apart from a nice tech t-shirt, the goody bag I got for the 10km I did this morning consisted of a few fliers, a crappy pink biro and a toothbrush.
