Grease

I'm going to be replacing the BB in the not too distant future (hopefully with the aid of Mr Skeff). I'm looking to get some grease for the threads to prevent siezing in the future. I was going to get this originally but saw a review/comment on one site that said it's not for bike assembly.

Can anybody recommend a particular grease for this? Also, while I'm on the subject, would the same grease do for e.g. regreasing the bearings on the wheels?

    Suggest you use anti-seize.

I have a big pot of it (Shimano branded stuff) if you want some.

edit: you might want to attempt the job yourself, it's very simple after you've got the cranks off.

    Instructions here.

You just need a BB removal tool (and the anti-seize).

    And starve Skeff? :p

(I just have to lob in a quick Mr. Skeffington recommendation here - he stuck my new compact chainset on for me last Saturday, running like a dream so far, including the manically-paced Boards hammerfest on Sunday.)

Thanks a lot for the offer. I'll be planning to do this in the future myself, so might as well just get it now.

I've just bought a BB and removal tool but I think that I'm getting close to a new cassette and at least one chain ring. I'd like him to cast an eye over it before I get them and then get any tips for what to look for with regard to that wear and also anything to look for on the BB cos I haven't done that before. I've seen tips on the web for how to identify a worn cassette, but just can't see it properly myself.
