My brother wants to buy a small(ish), reliable car. Lowish mileage is the only real must-have. He doesn't care if it's hatch/saloon or indeed how many doors. His budget is 4 grand max. Any suggestions?

You will have to allow another grand for doing the head gaskets on both of them six months down the line. :p

Considering I myself had a Punto until its head gasket went means ANY and ALL Fiats are out of the running! My bro sent me this link but I know nothing about Rovers.

Good deal and reliable car or complete lemon?

if you aren't fussy, head down to the auction places for the best deal. Havent been myself but heard its not a particularly daunting process.
