Hi I want to buy one of the web fares on the Irish Rail website, just wondering how it works? Is it possible to collect the tickets without presenting the card used to book? Replies much appreciated!

You get a confirmation code when you book and if you show it at the booking office or enter it into the ticket machine you can get the tickets without the booking credit card.

The correct procedure is to bring the reference number with any credit or laser card. Pop any laser or credit card you have into the machine. The ticket may drop out. If it doesn't, then the system asks for a PRN. This is your personal reference number. Pop it in, and the ticket should pop out. If you dont have any card at all, then bring number and photo id, passport or drivers licence to booking office. Hope this helps. It normally works grand for me.

Yes I do it all the time. Go to the ticket window, give them the booking number along with some ID matching the name of the passenger on the booking, and they'll give you your ticket.

You can have your ticket posted to you, if there is enough time.

If you have the card, put card in ticket dispensing machine (usually orange, but this may change) and you get your ticket.

If you don't have the card, but have a different credit/debit, put card in ticket dispensing machine, enter reservation number when asked and you get your ticket.

If you don't have any card, bring reservation number and photo ID to ticket office and you get your ticket.

Not all stations have ticket dispensing machines or booking offices.

Despite our advice Victor, I don't think Columbia likes machines......

Over the next few days, you will now be able to collect the ticket without a credit/debit card. You will be issues with a security number when you make the booking.

This means you will be able to collect bookings from any of the orange ticket machines, not just he green ones. The roll-out is initially from main termini and will go nationwide. You will know the machine is enable as there will be an extra section on the screen (currently two sections in the Dublin area, one for cash purchases and one for SmartCards, I think outside that there is only one section).

The old (green) ticket collection machines are currently off-line.

The security number is 3 digits plus a 7/8 digit reservation number.
