    hmmm

someone's definately gone to a whole lot of bother. I suppose on the 2nd website the fact that a picture has been put up would certainly be a breach of copyright (the picture is pixalated so it has been taken from a site and blown-up) as well as data protection matters.

You have to wonder what the real purpose behind the website it?

    not even debt collection....

I googled it and there's a whole blog and sub-sphere based on this stuff. It apparently originates from China and the blogging that goes on there and *some* of the flesh search engines seem to use websites ending in '.info'

and in china and UK, they are used to go after profile individuals aswell as normal people highlighting personal facts

seems pointless but still not right

some people have far too much time on their hands

But is it legal? If it is factual then it must be? It has been used a lot in China as eagle_&_bear says, but it would appear that it is to good affect, from what I have read.

    Are the facts correct?

There are data protection issues, in particular as to the fairness of the use of the information. Public information (name, date of birth, marriage, etc.) is fair game, but the rest possibly not.

If that is the case, then 90% of what is on Boards.ie is in trouble. Or perhaps you can explain the difference.

From what I have read about Human Flesh Search, the target is sought not for debts or because of a will but to expose them for some perceived slight against nationality or social injustice usually online. It was created in china.

In china one such victim was an online user going by the name of posion that was exposed by human flesh search and found out to be a high-level government official.

It is viewed as a form of online vigilantism.

The trend is also common in america, It is not uncommon on other forums where some smart ass lies about something that he has a percunary interest in and other users pitch together to get as much info as possible and expose who they are. On this occasion the individual happened to be a sex offender who was running a online poker company and suspossedly fleecing its users.

This was a big online sensation for awhile. Another one was a young man that sent this photo into a online muscle fitnness forum and was ridiculed beyond belief but not neccessarily in a malicious way. That's american s for you they are fickle eejits. The chinese developed the Human Flesh Search Engine however and have ancient laws and customs and vigilantism is taken alot more seriously, and they would pursue with a sense of justice rather than the American form which is usually a mockery of the weak and vulnerable or defencless.

    As for the OP post:

This would be I suppose the Irish version and I would imagine that this is just another format of pushing the agenda. whether the purpose behind this is mockery or social justice will remain to be seen, although i doubt it could have the effect it would have in america or china.

it is an invasion of privacy.
