Law governing recruitment agencies in Ireland

    Hi there everyone,

A colleague of mine recently asked me to help him set up a recruitment agency in Ireland, the idea behind it (with out going into to much detail) is to deal mainly with the foreign market, organising jobs for people who are looking to go abroad to work & those looking to enter employment here in Ireland, and also provide a recruitment agency service with in Ireland.

My question is, is there any legislation or regulatory body that he should be dealing with or review before he starts taking on clients?

Yes there is legislation, you need a licence or permit or something, from enterprise and employment, i think. I would ring NERA and see what they have to say.

€500 a year for a recruitment agency license. Takes a few weeks as they do a garda check but pretty straight forward otherwise

I operated a recruitment business during the boom, dont waste your time or money getting a licence, trade away and see how it goes first. In all honesty i think your at nothing as you can only charge the client, no companies are paying fees at present
