This is crazy in pretty small town like mallow
Teen wearing socks and underwear kicks in Garda windscreen

    By Sean O’Riordan

    Friday, April 09, 2010

A KNIFE-wielding teenager wearing only socks and boxer shorts, kicked in the windscreen of a patrol car.

And, in a separate violent incident in which gardaí were targeted, an officer had his nose broken.

Both incidents occurred in housing estates in the north Cork town of Mallow.

Gardaí were called to a disturbance at a housing estate in the town early on Wednesday.

When they arrived at approximately 1.15am, they were confronted by a man in his late teens wearing just boxer shorts and socks.

He waved a knife at gardaí who emerged from two patrol cars, one of which was unmarked.

The teenager then jumped onto the bonnet of one of the patrol cars and kicked the front windscreen in – despite the fact he had no shoes on.

Gardaí repeatedly told him to drop the knife but he reportedly refused.

Superintendent Pat McCarthy said gardaí told the man if he persisted in waving the knife around they would have to use pepper spray or batons to disarm him.

"He continued to lash out with the knife and gardaí had to use a baton to disarm him," the superintendent said.

The teenager was arrested for criminal damage and public order offences.

He was released without charge but Supt McCarthy said he would appear in court at a later date.

He also said it was fortunate none of the gardaí attending this incident were injured.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Mallow this week, a garda in his 20s was punched repeatedly in the face. The incident occurred in another housing estate.

At about 4.50am on Tuesday, gardaí were attacked by a number of young men.

One of the gardaí sustained a broken nose and was taken to Mallow General Hospital for treatment. One of his colleagues was severely kicked in the body.

Two men were arrested and are expected to appear in court at a later date.

Supt Pat McCarthy said such scenes will not be tolerated.

"We are finding some people are much more aggressive towards gardaí these days, which is a source of concern to us," Supt McCarthy said.

And Saturday night following this Gardai were called house estate in the outskirts of the town, attention a call for a house party on arrival gardai car was hit with paintball s also reports that Cork Based Regional Support unit was called in restore order

Guys can i have your taught on this ?

    Nothing new here.

Something like this happens every day of the week.

The Gardai are well up for dealing with it when it happens.

But people think we all stand on dual carriageways during rush hour traffic shooting fish!!
