What satellites would you say you need to recieve with a motorised setup to get most of europes chanels i'm worried that my house will block most of the western satellites although i should be able to get maybe as far as 12w. Is this enough do you think?

12w is fine ,the only main satellite past that is 30w which has Digital+ Spain on it Meo and TV Cabo which are both Portuguese.
Digital + is on 19E anyway so 30w is no loss.
90% of packages are on 28e,19e,13e,16e and 1w.

can anyone help me with the angles and inclination setup as in degrees offset etc for european satellites . i.m living in Dun Laoghaire and my latitude is 53.16 N and 6.08W. I looked up lyngsat for elevation and offset degrees and put it at 30 degrees offset and tried that but only get 5W,1W,4E,7E,and rest of satellites disappear altogether. Can anyone help.i,ve a 1.2 offset dish

    Thanks in advance

If you're using a motor, the angles will depend on the type of motor. Elevation will be 36, declination will be X - 7.

thanks for your reply but lyngsat and dishpointer.com puts elevation 29.1. tried that and only get 5 satellites?

what sat are you using for your starting point im just outside charleville and for me its 8w thats my highest sat,so for you it might be 5w if the dish and pole are set up correctly you should get all the sats as it will correctly follow the arc,if your pole is plumb it will be off and you will be missing sats, according to dish pointer my dish elevation should be 30 but it ended up be 26 it will take a bit of trial and error, get the strongest signal you can on 5w then move to different sats and then you can adjust as need to get it working 100%

Dishpointer gives the elevation for a fixed dish aligned to a particular satellite. The elevation for a satellite mount is 36 deg for your location.

At the simplest level, the elevation of a mount is always 90 - latitude (+/- small correction), so the dish points at the Clarke belt at the top of the arc. The declination angle allows for the fact that the Earth is curved and not flat, and the satellites are not at infinity.

It doesn't matter. The elevation of the mount is the same. What motor are you using?
