    You go first!

Just put money into the PP account whenever I run out. Haven't put anything in it in about a month. Then take money out whenever I go over 100. I'm a lot more conservative recently since I lost my job.. Can't afford it!

Like you i just top up my account when empty but having checked my transactions for the year it works out at about €20 a week which aint too bad i guess.

I put 30 quid in my PP account back in January and I currently haven't had to top it up yet. Lowest I've gone to is 75c but I'm back up to more than 30 now.

    I bet for interest though.

Put €100 in my PP a/c for Chelters and have withdrawn €300 since then, and have a healthy balance of €395 in it now :D

prob spend another €60 a week in my local bookies aswell, but overall i'd say im in profit this year so far easily.

    Depends really, some weeks none.

    I'd say around €20 a week too.

Its amazing how often you hear this. In a lot of cases the person saying it is in delusion, not a stab at you Kod-box! Sure I even used to say it myself, until about 3 years ago when i started taking records of every deposit/withdrawal. I have lost every year, but the gap has significantly shortened since 2007. I only lost 3% last year compared to 12% in 2007, 9% in 2008 and 8% in 2009. This year im down 15% but a long way to go, and a good few ante-post still there.

I spend €4 every fortnight on the Lotto, so €2 per week for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

Lost a lot with my betfair account. Stupid bets and betting when drunk.

No im a lot more careful but still down about €300 (edit: thats on top of my betfair loss BTW). Have had money in the account since before cheltenham but lots my profit from that week. Been stable for the last two weeks.

As it stands, i lose and win in equal amounts so technically €0.

I put 300 into my PP account in January and since then i have never had to add anything else from my bank account. I've had 5 big wins this year that total more than 12 grand. Today being my biggest ever. I only bet on soccer, GAA and American football and it's only ever online. I'm sure if i went to the bookies or bet on horses i'd be flat broke by now. I've lost a little over a grand i reckon. But i look at it as being money i never had to begin with and i'm still at a huge profit. 10 euro doubles, trebles or accumalators are the mainstay of my betting. Only bet big on gut feelings.

...an average of about 15 or 20 euro per week for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 188 ✭✭yaaaboy

this would be interesting if everyone forgets their pride and gives an honest answer..

I used to spend up to 100 a week (would bet more when i was winning) and in college i used to limit myself to 10 a day, obviously i had winning weeks but overall was down. Keeping a record is the way to go, its cut out the stupid mug impulsive bets i used to do and im up now but only for a large win i had with one of tom segals tips a few weeks ago

the bookmakers wouldnt be making millions in profit every year if everyone that says their winning really are!

I put in a fiver before Christmas,I won 150 euros on an accumulator,my average bet is 100 Euro on doubles or singles, mostly in soccer and boxing.I lost a huge bet 2 weeks ago on the west ham everton match, and nearly gave up.I was on 1967.13 yesterday afternoon.I'm currently sitting at €2214.13

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭Gillington

Depends what you mean by "spend"? I've deposited €20 in my acc since I've set up and withdrawn €90 but obviously had many losers and a few winners in that time.I dont bet big by any means.

Actually just pulled up my history of settled bets since I set up my account.

Staked 374.77 Returned 450.49 .Its a bit crazy when you look at it in those terms so I suppose it depends on how you interpret spend.

In the real world I've probably spent about €100 in bookies since the new year, think I've won about the same

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭hitman79

Im down €250 for the year  Best get my act together but that only works out around €15 a week loss and some people would smoke that in a day. €10.22 in the account now and hopefully i wont have to top up for a while.

Thats fantastic betting digme. Can i just copy all your bets??

put 15 in before cheltenham got a treble up and have withdrew 5 thousand and still have 455 in it now.. best is to just wait and have a big bet on something ya really fancy rather than putting 5ers on things..wont make money putting 5ers on things or backing a horse in every race

My bet 365 account for the last 6 months.

    Staked : 3,041.57 Returned : 3,024.89

    -€16 or so. :pac:

Not my main account though. Betfair would be where i do most of my big bets & horses and it's up a nice bit thank God. Just use B365 for my small accys and mental bets! Surprised it's not down more money to be honest.

that made me laugh out loud...imagine putting a fiver into you're account!

Used to back a couple of grand a week. Nearly lost the wife/kid and house. Now i'd be lucky to get a euro on a week. A lot of this thread is lies, but if it makes you feel better about losing to the bookies. Go ahead.
    Good luck all.;)

Happens on every site and it's not your profit bt the nature of your betting that counts.

If you mostly back high profile tennis/soccer and bet in running plenty then you will be fine.

My general rule is that unless you have an accurate spreadsheet of all bets then any guess at profitability is heavily exaggeated (mostly subconsciously) in your own favour.

Most sites (Betfair, Betdaq and Skybet the only exceptions i know of) don't have total deposits/withdrawals listed so you have to trawl through the statement. It's human nature to remember withdrawals over deposits.

I doubt many people are lying on this thread. Some will definately be misguided though.

Off topic, but I'm intrigued as to why folk bet predominantly on the likes of PaddyPower and Boyles online when there is betfair. I suppose for yankies and the like betfair isn't an option.

I'm not going to go into details of my gambling costs or otherwise as I can be easily identifed from previous posts if anyone wanted to bother. I'm betting 8 years now and have developed a nifty talent for backing winners on the all weather in England, Kempton mainly for whatever reason. Much like what people earn from work I reckon asking people what they win/lose gambling is not polite :)

Personally if you're a single chap on €20000/annum with no real financial responsibilites I reckon €20/week gambling is ok, likewise if your on €50000 a year but supporting a family. Anyone consistently (over a period of years) losing €100/week or close to it would want to reign it in or give it up I reckon. Anyone who has a local betting office knows lads losing €100 a day, wherever they get it from remains a mystery to me but it is very very sad to see it happen.

Everything came up suspended for me back in the play offs for the NFL in January. I was betting on really small aspects of the game and was winning a fair bit. Wonder if the problem was to do with my bets. Was mostly live betting though. Couldn't bet for over a week and only opened after the super bowl because i had backed the Saints before the season and guess they needed to pay me. Or the fact that i lost 500 euro on San Diego losing.

    .

Betfair offers serious limitations from certain betting points of view.

Outside of the ridiculous premium charge, liquidity is a massive issue on on a load of markets outside football and horse racing.

It's also a poor medium for handicap betting in a sport like rugby or runs betting in something like cricket.

If i bet mainly in football and horse racing, Betfair/Betdaq would get most of my business. I don't, so it doesn't.
