    Few weeks away yet but..
Channel 4's Alternative Election Night, filmed in front of a studio audience, will be broadcasting live for four-hours on election night.

Heading up this ambitious show will be hosts Jimmy Carr and David Mitchell. Joining them in the studio will be various comedians, a range of pundits and an in-studio bookmaker.

The election results will be covered as they come in, between politics-themed pre-recorded shows including Fonejacker, You Have Been Watching and Come Dine with Me.

Channel 4 describes the programming as "a provocative, cerebral and entertaining take on all things election, featuring discussion, specially recorded segments and audience reaction."

    Official Site

    Airs on May 6th.

Looks damn more entertaining than what BBC, ITV and Sky will be airing! :D

Don't see a time mentioned, it would want to be late.
Damn, just checked and I've an exam the following morning, going to totally spoil this election for me. :(

It's a live show and on prime time.. so that time-slot is heavily flawed! :D

Aye, but it's meant to be serving a purpose which it can't!

The polls close at 10 and the first results are generally in before 11. If the show runs from 10-2 around half the results should be in by the end. Normally by this time a winner is clear but because the polls are so close between 3 parties this time it'll almost certainly be well into Friday before there will be a clear indication of a final result. Obviously they couldn't have known this when they were planning the show. Maybe they'll extend it by an hour or two.

who cares about the results, we'll be getting 4+ hours of david mitchell

If it's not aimed at 13 year old tweens Richard generally isnt interested. The mere thought of intelligent comedy is enough to send him running back to repeats of the Hills and 90210.

I'm going to say he'll be on-screen for less than 25 minutes.

Also, I do, I love elections. :pac:

    Well.. that I know! :D

But I was wondering where the idiotic "Channel 4 is racist" jibe came from?

I'm assuming that either he is referring to the Celebrity Big Brother incident and believes that Channel 4 championed Jade Goody in order to boost ratings or he was desperately trying to be funny. In either case he failed miserably.

Jimmy Carr, David Mitchell and political Come Dine With Me/ Fonejacker? Interesting, I'll give it a look see.

(I'll be switching over to Dimbleby when You Have Been Watching comes on though )

I loved David Mitchell's rant at the Liberal Democrats (think it was on Mock the Week) basically saying they could come up with any crazy policy they wanted because they have no chance of coming to power. Also a fan of Charlie so I might try and give this a look.

I wonder if he'll take that back now with the Lib Dems insane recent surge in popularity? :p

Yeah I was actually wondering what his thoughts were on them now. Shame MTW isn't on at the moment but I guess he'll talk about it on this show.

I think I'll tape this and fast forward through 'Come Dine With Me' and the other recorded parts. There will be plenty going on on Election Night without watching Edwina Currie and Derek Hatton.

I'll probably end up watching all the David Mitchell parts, and any others which get good reviews.

Just switch on the tv anytime and you'll get this.. As much as I love Peep Show, he's fast becoming the biggest panel show whore in the business, and the very fact that he's appearing with Jimmy Carr surely indicates that he's struggling with the rent.. Interesting to see how Brooker handles it, as he pretty much hates everyone he's going to be working with..

Anyway, good to see the Irish getting behind the British elections.. if only some of you had of got behind our own one, 3 years ago, we may not be in the mess we are now..

Probably gonna get infracted, but how about you go **** yourself? You have no idea who anyone here voted for or if they did indeed vote. Think you've a case of little ****ing islander syndrome you could do with getting sorted out.
Or are you suggesting there should've been a night of entertainment on TV once the voting was done which would've made a difference?

    Bump.

This is on at 9 this evening. Looking forward to it. I reckon it will either be very good or very bad. Hopefully the former.

To be fair.. Lauren Laverne is the best of a bad bunch.

Who would you have liked? Claudia Winkleman, Davina McCall, Tess Daly?

Its been scripted so far because there is nothing 'live' to report as of yet. At Ten the poles close and the exit poles are published, then the real joy of live tv will begin.

Saying that I am enjoying it so far.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It is funny now but there's nothing like some spontaneous, off the cuff, witty humour. I have high hopes!

Having never seen Come Dine With Me before I am enjoying this. The reaction over the tinned kidney beans made me laugh.

I share those sentiemnts, jsut posted this to a freind on facebook:
Can't decide what to watch tonight, watching the alternative election on CH4 but it would appear that the human punching bag that is Patrick Kielty is going to be on soon and that's reason if any to turn away.

David Mitchell is a legend, but why the hell do they insist on having a woman on? If there's no funny women available then don't have one. ¬_¬'

More Come Dine with me, off to the BBC with me.

I mean, seriously, this is just not funny. Don't be fooled by the hype folks..

I said I'd give it until the results, and still will, but I'm totally bored watching it..

Also, 4 ad-breaks in one hour isn't helping..

Sharon Horgan is quite well known in the UK for Pulling and some other shows.

In Ireland she is still known as 'Shane Horgan's sister'

Its decent enough, disappointed at the lack of true live material but it is a good watch considering what the other stations are offering
