Importing electric cars

I am interested in the buzz on the electric cars. The Nissan Leaf looks quite good. What I also think will be interesting is the price internationally. As electic vehicles are not liable for VRT we can shop around and import without being penalised. Has anyone shipped a car from the states before, and if so, how much did shipping cost?

No But just remember the US is 110v and were 220v, so you will have to install a transformer into the car. should not be a big deal.

You may not be liable for VRT but if you import from the US (or anywhere outside the EU or perhaps EEA) you will be liable for Irish customs duties on the goods and on the transport costs, all may be in addition to whatever taxes you pay in the US before exporting.

I would imagine doing something like that would effect warranty if the vehicle was 3 years old or less.
