Cool edit vs Audition. Is it just me?

I have studied various forms of media over the past few years, including sound engineering. I am currently studying Media Production. Having learnt radio editing on Cool Edit I don't quite get the big deal with Audition. Is this just me? Sure it is a great program but is it not overkill at the moment?

When it was cool edit it was great. Reasonably lightweight and PERFECTLY suited to it's purpose, which was editing audio. Since it has been bought out by Adobe it had become bloated. I feel that Adobe have added features to it that are not necessary. It is, and always has been, an audio editor. I feel right now it's a bit confused as to what it is, i.e. it wants to be an audio editor and DAW all at the same time.

Am I the only person to think this? I love the program for what it is but I do think for it's purposes it has gone overkill. If I want audio editing, Cool Edit is the way to go. Lightweight and serves its very purpose. If I want more I will go with a program specific to that.

So I think Audition had gone too far and is in between an audio editor and DAW. It should make up it's mind. For editing audio I found Cool Edit much better as in performance. Why fix something if it ain't broken. In college (for radio editing) I find people will not go near Cool Edit cause it is "old". Personally I feel for that purpose Cool Edit has always been better for basic stuff. Does anyone else agree or am I on my own here?

I still use cool edit 1.2 :) - why change at all :) - best money i've ever spent.

Can definitely see your point and I thought the same when they renamed it to Audition. Should really have kept it lightweight.
